Healthy Eating…How to lose weight and eat the foods you love! A challenge!

No more tofu

Here we are again and my posts about Obesity around the world and the causes has finished not quite on the note I hoped and was it an eye-opener? …If I am honest…NO!… And Yes…How does that make me feel? It makes me very sad that the greed of big manufacturers, businesses and governments knows no bounds…

It makes me wonder why…Yes, why? We let them do this… I think that we are complacent, that if it doesn’t directly affect us…We do nothing…

Then smack, Bang, Wallop… How did that happen???

We all need to wake up…smell the coffee… Question what we don’t understand whether it affects us or not because one day it will…If it doesn’t already it will affect our children…Our grandchildren…Future generations… someone’s child, someone’s mum, someone’s dad…Just someone!

What can we do???

We can take charge we can be in charge of our own bodies our own destinies and yes some things we cannot change but maybe if we change our eating habits we can lessen the effects of poor choices… of a bad diet…

Who do you cheat??? Yourself!

Let’s do this for ourselves our families and Let’s kick these big companies into touch…Lets cook from scratch…Let’s check where our food comes from…Let’s try… Let’s say NO! To fast food…Let’s say NO! To processed food…

What works for you? What has made your condition A) Go away B) Ease your symptoms..??

This is my challenge to YOU…

What am I going to do? I am going to try Tofu…Have a couple of meat-free days a week…I hope some of you will send me some of your tried and tested recipes I can post on here…Give me your opinions on Tofu…I have none…I don’t eat it…I don’t cook with it…

But I have bought some and it sits in my fridge and I am going to try it… I am meeting opposition…The men…They love their meat BUT they have promised to try it…Will they be biased? I am going to make this dish as tasty as I can …We will see…Will I like it will they like it???

What are you going to do?

My parting words… I love food…I love good food… I believe you can eat what you like and be healthy…I believe in moderation…I bet you were wondering when my favourite word was going to creep in…haha

I love walking…I walk a lot…I don’t like jumping about like a lunatic to music or someone shouting… We all know we should exercise… Find your favourite exercise it doesn’t have to be costly gyms unless that is your thing… But it does have to be enjoyable…You have to love what you do and eat… Then you will be healthy…

    Oh thanks so much for this post, Carol. It brought a big smile as it reminded me of the first time I served tofu to my family. It was all the rage among my friends, so I bought some. One day for lunch, I fried it up in some bacon fat (floured first) and then added it to a lettuce and tomato sandwich. Tasted just like a BLT, and my kids loved it. But years later, when we all learned WHY most folks use tofu, it became a running family joke. No apologies. I still love it cooked that way. 🙂

    I wish I had tofu recipes to send you, but I wish you luck!! It’s always easier to start with small manageable changes rather than huge, insurmountable ones. And movement is key!! Each walk, each little dance, each jump takes you that bit closer 🙂

    I agree with you Carol. What I find hard about eating healthy is the price. I am a phlebotomist. Sometimes I have to travel to different locations to help out. I ended up in an inner city one day to assist the other phlebotomist. It had been a busy day. When lunch came, I was starving. I didn’t want to eat fast food. I drove around and searched the small area for 25 minutes looking for a healthier alternative. Nothing is sight. I was discouraged. My only option was to go to a grocery store and buy two apples. I had left my wallet at home and only had $5 on me. What’s sad is that if I had of went to McDonald’s I could have gotten a small fry, large sugary ice tea, double cheese burger, and 3 cookies (1800 cal) with the $5. The two apples(165 cal) and a bottled water took most of my money. The world is sick place. There are times when you do not have time to pack a lunch and are left to the mercy of your environment. In deep parts of the inner city, farmer’s markets are far or non-existing. The cost of poor living is cheap unhealthy food. And it aches my heart terribly!

      That is a real shame …Have you tried making lunch the night b4 or if a microwave is available where go take a pre frozen portion of a lunch ie chilli or something like that…When I worked I used to make extra and freeze portions or make something a pasta sald the night b4. Yes I didn’t think of inner cities and I should have..I am sorry but I have seen some inner cities where rood top gardens are growing in popularity and also communal gardens… Sometimes these are there it is just finding them …Thank you very much for your comment..I hope you have a lovely weekend 🙂

        That’s a great idea Carol. I never thought about freezing soups or chili. And there are some cities with rooftop gardens. Maybe that is something I can get involved in. You are a lovely person Carol. I hope you have a wonderful weekend also!

    HI Carol, what my husband and I do is NEVER to eat fast food and cook at home a lot more often than we used to. And when we do go out it’s to a restaurant that we go to almost exclusively and have gotten friendly with the chef/owner. He’ll make us anything we want if he has the ingredients which always included zucchini and on occasion broccoli rabe (yum)! And I always have an apple at work – it keeps the urge to go to the vending machine away. 🙂 thanks for a great post ! Cheers!

      Same as us, Joan I always cook from scratch..although if it is a very rare treat then I think that is ok.. Is this recent life change? If so can you see the benefits? Thank you for dropping by and if you have some yummy recipes to share I am happy to post them 🙂

        Thank you Carol, but I can’t cook to save my life! I don’t think you would want my recipes LOL… actually the best chefs are men and my husband does all the cooking although he’s not a chef, his food is wonderful. And I’ve asked for recipes and he won’t share !! I do make a nice tuna salad with relish and mayo – delicious on an English muffin but I’m not sure how healthy 🙂 I hope you have a wonderful evening!

    Good for you Carol, trying out the tofu, lol. First time? I hope you bought firm. I’m neither here or there with tofu, but the trick is, if it’s used in a flavorful dish it will absorb the taste of the sauce. It really doesn’t have a taste of its own. It’s a great protein substitute when not wanting to eat animal protein. I’ve given it to my husband in a dish and he didn’t even know the difference if it was chicken or not! LOLLLLLLLLLL 🙂 ❤

      Haha, Debs…sneaky I like it…I bought firm tofu on the advice of Dolly and she told me to make sure I dried it well before using so I am going to try one of her recipes wish me luck for my first tofu recipe…I am trying to keep an open mind I have just never really wanted to try it. Although it is used in a lot of soups and stir-fries here Thais eat it a lot …xxxx

    I really enjoy tofu. My opinion is, if you’re just trying it out for the first time, get extra firm (the other can be a little off-putting in texture for beginners), marinate it well (it needs some time to soak up all that flavour or it will seem bland and gross), and grilling it is a nice way to start as it gives it a meatier texture.
    I can’t wait to see what you think!! 👍🍻 I was a vegetarian for about 15 years… So, I’ve had my fair share of tofu!

    I like tofu, but my husband is not a fan. And, I was actually going to cook some today for myself to mix with cold soba noodles. I use the firm tofu, sliced thinly, and crisped in a pan.
    Since I don’t eat meat, we do eat lots of meatless meals–beans, vegetables, etc.
