Natural Homemade Healing remedies: Black Drawing Salve…Calendula oil…

Calendula Infused Oil: Can be used topically for many different ailments. It may be beneficial for dry skin, cracks, eczema, scrapes, minor burns and sunburns, rashes, chapped lips, and pesky bug bites. It helps to reduce inflammation and promotes wound healing.

8 oz of dried Calendula flowers or as they are often called pot marigolds.

16 oz of organic olive oil

A pint glass jar.

Put the dried flowers in the glass jar then cover the flowers with the olive oil and let the jar sit on your kitchen top for an hour or so.

Check that the oil covers all the flowers and sits about half inch above the flowers. Stir the oil well then put the cap on the jar and stand on a sunny windowsill. Shake once a day and leave for between 3 to 6 weeks generally 4 weeks is about right and the oil should be yellow and have a nutty smell.

Once ready then strain the oil through a cloth and put the oil in a clean jar. Store in a cool dark place and the oil should keep for about a year.

Calendula oil is also used to make a homemade drawing salve called black salve.

Homemade drawing salve is used to calm inflammation of the skin, to bring a boil to a head, for insect bites and to draw out a deep splinter.

Many years ago ” black salve” was believed to draw out evil spirits it is also apparently well used in the Amish community and something that my mum always used to use to draw out splinters and bring boils to a head but she used to use castor oil instead of the calendula oil.

You will need a double boiler or a bowl over a pan of water I prefer the double boiler as it is more stable than a bowl over a saucepan I always manage to burn myself with the steam.

2 tbsp shea butter

1 tbsp of coconut oil

1 tsp of activated charcoal powder

1 tbsp of aloe vera I grow aloe vera in the garden so I pick and squeeze out the gel-like liquid.

1 tbsp of arnica oil

2 tbsp of Calendula oil

1 tsp of Vit E oil

1 tsp of raw honey

10 drops of frankincense essential oil

10 drops of tea tree oil

Let’s make some salve…

Put the shea butter and the coconut oil into the double boiler over a low heat until they are melted. Add all the other ingredients except for the tea tree and frankincense oils and blend well. Once the mixture is well blended then add the frankincense and tea tree oils.

Keep in a screw lidded jar and use as required.

It may seem like a lot of ingredients but many of the ingredients I always have at home the only two I had to buy was the activated charcoal powder and the Vit E oil.

I have come across a few different recipes for drawing salves some uses beeswax, castor oil it is the activated charcoal which is the magic ingredient which draws out foreign bodies and stings.

Well, I’ll have to see if I can find all of this stuff!! Most of it seems fairly simple! I don’t know if I’ve seen Frankincense oil, but I’m sure I’ll be able to find some at my holistic stores around here! 👍👍
