Waste not! Want Not!… India plants 66 Million Trees…

The news and the headlines are coming thick and fast…So what do we believe? Do we take everything we see as gospel…Do you do your own investigations before you comment? …What do you really think? Do you think we are doomed?… Do you think that if we ditch our cars, adopt a vegan diet, never fly again and get out our pushbikes that the world will be saved?

What do I think? I think for years and years we have been bombarded with headlines which tell us… Too much salt is bad, Don’t eat trans fats, Fruit is bad it is high in sugar, Meat is unhealthy, Carbohydrates increase body fat, 97% of Climate scientists agree…with Climate Change…Blah! Blah! Blah!

The answer to all of those is we are thinking, independent individuals, who go by facts, logic and explanation or we should.

Forbes says: https://www.forbes.com/sites/alexepstein/2015/01/06/97-of-climate-scientists-agree-is-100-wrong/#66d9499b3f9f

Interestingly New British research is saying Climate change poses less of an immediate threat to the planet than previously thought because scientists got their modelling wrong.

I am not saying that Climate change isn’t important I just think we are ( as usual) being blinded by all this hype as usual and other things which have importance are taking a back seat …Clever politicians…While they are inactive except for furnishing their own agendas…we are busy doing what we can about climate change…A good diversion…This lady is not for turning I see exactly what they are doing and it is not for the good of any of us lesser mortals…

Deforestation is also important…But lots of good news and tree planting and this is awesome news… India plants 66 million trees in 12 hours as part of a record-breaking environmental campaign…

forest trees and sunlight

I love nothing better than walking among trees they elicit a feeling of calm for me…Not so for those humans and the wildlife who have their habit plundered and destroyed without a thought…

Chemical poisoning of our soil, waterways and food continues…Soil contamination or soil pollution as part of land degradation is caused by the presence of xenobiotic (human-made) chemicals or other alteration in the natural soil environment. It is typically caused by industrial activity, agricultural chemicals, or improper disposal of waste.

A sight I grew up with my grandad tilling his fields he didn’t use pesticides but unless you are in the know…The soil looks the same contaminated or not…Chemical contamination must stop for the health of us all…

Waste or disposal of waste is a huge problem worldwide…I touched on this in last Monday’s post and again governments need to get their acts together once and for all and address this problem with a vigour that has been sadly lacking. I also believe that governments need to get tougher on manufacturers who should be contributing to providing proper means of collection and disposal of the packaging they create for the goods they sell.

Adele has a question?… Blister packs? How do you recycle them for free?

Photo on VisualHunt.com

If you take regular medication or use disposable contact lenses then some help is now available for recycling…I also read that if you break the packs down separate the foil from the layer you can recycle separately.

If anyone knows of how you can recycle these pill packets for free please let us know and help Adele out…

There are some clickable links on the post which may offer some help…

Here are some free recycling packs if you are in the US as I know many of my readers are.

For all you Coffee lovers…A treat!

A good move in the right direction from the UK government and given the logistics, next year sounds good…Plastic straws, drink stirrers and cotton buds with plastic stems will be banned

The fact some cancers are on the increase because of chemicals…Food contamination is a matter of serious concern, as the high concentration of chemicals present in the edibles poses serious health risks. Protecting the public from the degrees of the harmfulness of contaminated foods has become a daunting task. This article highlights the causes, types, and health implications of chemical contamination in food.

No mother should have to have a worried look like that on her face….Wondering how she can feed her children…

Too many children are starving…Some 795 million people in the world do not have enough food to lead a healthy active life. That’s about one in nine people on earth. No child and no mother should have to worry about where the next meal is coming from especially when there is so much food waste in the world…

Food waste and a solution in the US…

Food waste and a solution in the UK…There are some interesting and shocking data here…

Too many arms are being sold and fueling wars…

Even though the Arms Trade Treaty has been in place for four years, the global arms trade is still on the rise. As world leaders meet to discuss the treaty, we must remind them that there is still work to do.

Pharmaceuticals…We all have the need for medicine at some point and for some, they are needed daily…At what cost to a struggling health service?syringe-1884784_640

Medical costs are spiralling out of control…as are peoples dependency on pills. Does the cost of research really warrant the vast profits the big pharmaceutical companies make year in year out and every year sees an increase… Governments would do well to educate people and make sure they knew about correct nutrition and then they wouldn’t need as many pills and potions.

It is a proven fact that a healthy balanced diet can help and reduce many ailments…

What a sad image …

Homelessness is on the increase… In a survey spanning five generations, homelessness charity Centrepoint found the young are more vulnerable than ever thanks to growing up in insecure private rentals and then not being able to afford to rent without financial aid.

In 2017/18, some 103,000 young people approached local authorities for help because they were homeless or at risk of homelessness shocking statistics on a young homelessness crisis that shames Britain.

A report from the Department of Housing and Urban Development has found that just under 553,000 people are homeless, with approximately 65% staying in sheltered accommodation. Out of every 10,000 people in the United States, 17 experienced homelessness on a single night in 2018.

Dignity is a human right and it seems that in every country I checked the homeless figures are very high and increasing year on year because there are not enough shelters and governments ignore the basic human right to shelter and dignity.

What is just as sad is the fact that many are servicemen and women who have served their countries with honour and bravery who often return injured and traumatised and end up on the streets and so desperate that many take their own lives.

Have I left anything out? I am sure I have… It made me sad to write this as in this day and age much of this should NOT be happening and we need to make politician understand this and also understand that they work for us the people who elect them.

We also need to do something our selves it doesn’t matter how small every little helps…x

About Carol Taylor:

Enjoying life in The Land Of Smiles I am having so much fun researching, finding new, authentic recipes both Thai and International to share with you. New recipes gleaned from those who I have met on my travels or are just passing through and stopped for a while. I hope you enjoy them.

I love shopping at the local markets, finding fresh, natural ingredients, new strange fruits and vegetable ones I have never seen or cooked with. I am generally the only European person and attract much attention and I love to try what I am offered and when I smile and say Aroy or Saab as it is here in the north I am met with much smiling.

Some of my recipes may not be in line with traditional ingredients and methods of cooking but are recipes I know and have become to love and maybe if you dare to try you will too. You will always get more than just a recipe from me as I love to research and find out what other properties the ingredients I use contain to improve our health and wellbeing.

The environment is also something I am passionate about and there will be more on this on my blog this year

Exciting for me hence the title of my blog, Retired No One Told Me! I am having a wonderful ride and don’t want to get off, so if you wish to follow me on my adventures, then welcome! I hope you enjoy the ride also and if it encourages you to take a step into the unknown or untried, you know you want to…….Then, I will be happy!

A hard hitting post this week from Carol Taylor with her war on waste.. this week good news that India has planted 66 million trees in 12 hours as part of a record-breaking environmental campaign… plus links to some pretty unbelievable statistics on homelessness in the USA.. and starvation around the world…thought provoking and a reminder of how lucky so many of us are.

We are indeed the lucky ones in so many ways and I know that utopia will never be reached and would we want it? But so much waste begs the question…Why?..Thank you so much for your support , Sally in getting the word out there and even if it makes one person stop , think and do something however small it makes a difference ❤ xxx

Another great post…sobering to be sure. Is it as bad as they say? Better than they say? What to believe? Here in the US, several cities have levied heavy tax increases to help the homeless problem…yet it got worse!

Thank you for your continued support, John and it begs the question ..Why? I am really researching and drilling down through all the differing opinions and not liking what I think is happening…Let’s just say at the moment all is not and this is my opinion as it seems…Headlines are just that…Actual facts are harder to find…Politicians react to continued pressure i.e. Extinction Revolution or Greta Thunberg and have a knee jerk reaction makes everyone look good. But when you look behind the man so to speak it is interesting what you find…Politicians in the main are reactive. Scientists observe, devise theories, test those theories by making predictions and if they work then generally that prediction is correct. Al Gore made a prediction it was not correct…The fact was that instead of melting the Arctic sheet got bigger and covered a larger area…Nature is hard to predict without actual facts and there are always variables that sometimes we don’t understand…I am trying to work on this and I think there is a lot of scaremongering and people who love to have a cause..There are also some great initiatives happening around the globe…Thank you, John, sorry for the rant 🙂 x

Have a great week too. I liked your start very much: is climate change as bad as they say. I believe so and my point of view is this: if I act like it is a crisis and it isn’t I make fool of myself. I can live with this. If I don’t treat it like a crisis and it is then I literally can’t live with it because we wont have a planet on which we can survive. Besides it saves a lot of money so it makes a lot of sense to act climate friendly 🙋‍♀️🐝

Thank you, Bee I like your philosophy and it doesn’t hurt to be climate friendly there are just so many other crisis which attention as well…I was on a roll this week it all got an airing but hey ho it is important to me …I want to leave a good safe world for my grandchildren and children so I have to be heard…Thank you for your comment 🙂 xx
