Whimsical Wednesday…with Carol…

Thank you once again for joining me on Whimsical Wednesday when anything goes..wherever my thoughts take me or when something stops me in my tracks and makes think or when something just wows me…

So come with me and see what has astonished or wowed me this week and what memories have been evoked…I do hope you enjoy and please if it evokes any memories for you please share…

Last week as my regular readers will know I spent in Bang Saray, Chonburi and had a lovely time, tried some different foods and met some lovely people…These little morsels are called Kanom Krok and these were topped with baby octopus…

Something different to try…I need to try and get the pan to make them in and find some baby octopus…I have tried savoury mussell ones before called hoi tod kanom krok, a crispy mussel pancake with bean sprouts…not octopus…These I found at the Floating Market…More on that tomorrow…

This week in time is for many a sad week as both Lady Diana…The Princess of Wales was buried and within less than a week after Princess Diana. .The Nobel Peace prize winner Mother Teresa died.

September does seem to be a sad month as also on the 6th September 1972 …9 Israeli hostages were killed by Arab terrorists. All 9 had been kidnapped just days before from the Olympic Village in Munich.

The birth of a baby always brings joy…

September 5th 1946 saw the birth of Freddie Mercury who would have thought then that he would become a musical icon …He would have been 73 tomorrow if he had lived…

Time for some music…

music notes

It put me in a bit of a quandy as I love most of the tracks by Freddie Mercury but I also love Elton Johns rendition of Candle in the Wind called Goodbye  English Rose…in honour of his friend Lady Diane…

Elton, it is as I am sure I will get another opportunity to showcase one of Freddie Mercuries songs…The songs I choose are always led by how my post takes shape they are never predetermined they just happen.

Today is also National Wildlife Day...which to me given today’s climate should be in our thoughts most days as much wildlife seems to be continually under threat and normally through events which are instigated by man.

The fires in the Amazon are still raging and are not only killing wildlife but threatening many indigenous populations…

The mission of the WWF is to conserve nature and reduce the most pressing threats to the diversity of life on Earth. Please support them if you can…

Who loves Only Fools and Horses???

On the 8th September 1981, the first episode was aired on BBC 1…It was to run until 2003…Such was its popularity…Del Boy became an institution…

The first episode entitled…Big Brother sets the scene…for future episodes…

Time for a story…

Today I am having a change… This little series was started by my dear friend Steph or SC Richmond with the invitation to anyone who wanted to write a chapter…So starting with Chapter 1  written by Steph… for the next few weeks, the story of The Charade will unfold…I hope you enjoy…

The Charade – Part 1

He leant towards her and in one fluid movement flipped open a silver card case. For a moment she was stunned as the light played on the silver, it almost appeared to shimmer.  She reached forward and plucked a card from the case faking confidence that she didn’t feel. Once the card was in her hand he pulled the case away and slipped it back into his waistcoat pocket.  “Will you contact me when you’re free.” He asked shyly.

“I will” She replied. This was not a situation she was used to, normally she would be working but as a favour to her boss she had attended this small party, she was feeling a little uncomfortable, everyone else here was more sophisticated and far more beautiful. Her boss had lent her a classy dress to attend the party and she did feel beautiful in it but knew she was out of her depth. She looked up at the young handsome man in front of her, he casually flicked a lock of hair away from his eyes and returned her gaze, she loved floppy hair. She glanced down at the card that was still in her hand, Mr Carl Ward, he had handed her his card obviously believing that she was of his class and she didn’t have the nerve to refuse the card.

   So the charade continued…..

Halloween is only eight weeks away…I know my American cousins always decorate their front porches and they look amazing…Not so much in the UK but Halloween does seem to be gaining momentum…Have y’all started planning and decorating yet? If so maybe you have some great ideas or recipes you would love to share I will link back and give you credit…

Thank you for reading my whimsical ramblings I do hope you enjoyed and it bought back some memories… xxx

About Carol Taylor:

Enjoying life in The Land Of Smiles I am having so much fun researching, finding new, authentic recipes both Thai and International to share with you. New recipes gleaned from those who I have met on my travels or are just passing through and stopped for a while. I hope you enjoy them.

I love shopping at the local markets, finding fresh, natural ingredients, new strange fruits and vegetable ones I have never seen or cooked with. I am generally the only European person and attract much attention and I love to try what I am offered and when I smile and say Aroy or Saab as it is here in the north I am met with much smiling.

Some of my recipes may not be in line with traditional ingredients and methods of cooking but are recipes I know and have become to love and maybe if you dare to try you will too. You will always get more than just a recipe from me as I love to research and find out what other properties the ingredients I use contain to improve our health and wellbeing.

The environment is also something I am passionate about and there will be more on this on my blog this year

Exciting for me hence the title of my blog, Retired No One Told Me! I am having a wonderful ride and don’t want to get off, so if you wish to follow me on my adventures, then welcome! I hope you enjoy the ride also and if it encourages you to take a step into the unknown or untried, you know you want to…….Then, I will be happy!

More and more of my blogging friends have joined me on MeWe…A social media site which is fairly new and which promises much without the restrictions some other social media sites are choosing to impose on many of us…Join me if you will on  MeWe

In Scotland, Carol, we have always kept up the Haloween tradition, except we carved Neepy Lanterns and on the island we went to a party that our school held for us as the distance for guising (scottish for trick or treating) was too far. Also, it was one of the four celebrations where we left out good food for the good folk, outside the door, a tradition I’ve carried on. xxx

David Jason in Only Fools and Horses is so funny. Thanks for that! I still cry when I think of Princess Diana. Such a sad event. Of course, 9-11 happened in September as well so it can be a sad month. EXcept that I had my dear son Sept 5 which makes it a good month for me!

Yes, Darlene there is always something joyous when there is such sadness and a birth always brings such joy doesn’t it?…I also had some tears when I listened to Candle in Wind so sad and tragic….

Oh I don’t decorate for holidays. I had a few neighbors in DC who decorated. I think they put theirs up around mid-October. I haven’t seen anyone put up Halloween stuff earlier than that — but that’s just me, and admittedly I don’t see a lot. I have no idea what to expect here in my new digs.
I used to love handing out the candy. But I always close “shop” at dark. Living alone, I don’t open my door to the night.
Now I have the creepy stalking perv across the street, so I’m not sure whether I’ll do anything. Maybe…
