Latest recycling and environmental news…7th October 2019…

Let’s look at what has been going on in this everchanging world of Climate Change??? There is always news every day now but I do wonder how much is really true and how much is scaremongering…Am I the only one?

It seems not from last weeks comments which I always welcome but first some good news…One 12-year-old girl in Thailand is taking up the call to action. See what Lilly is getting up to…

Thank you Alethea for bringing this to my attention…With so much focus on the young Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg lately, you may have missed Indigenous water warrior Autumn Peltier addressing world leaders at the United Nations about protecting water.

Just 15 years old, Autumn is a Anishinaabe-kwe and a member of the Wikwemikong First Nation and an internationally recognized champion for clean water. Here are two videos showing how Autumn first started her quest and where she is today…

Now two years older …Autumns latest speech to the UN…

Two inspiring young ladies who are quietly making changes and getting their voices heard… They have no big names and corporations behind them just their own passion.
October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
A subject dear to my heart my daughter is a survivor as are many friends BUT also I know many who were not…I am a firm believer that with many cancers both environmental factors and diet have an impact.

Join The Movement And Stop Food Waste #StopTheWaste

The United Nations World Food Programme is on a mission to stop food waste. It may be a mouldy piece of cheese or an old carrot. There’s often some frightful foodstuff festering at the back of the fridge. But very often, these seemingly spoiled items can be rescued and included in a tasty dish. That is why the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) today announced the launch of Stop the Waste. This is a global campaign to raise awareness about the huge amounts of edible food that is discarded daily. A habit that must be overcome if the world is going to make real progress in eradicating global hunger.

Nestle has been on my hit list for a number of years due to their unethical practises and I don’t buy their products…Over the last year, they seem to have been doing an about-turn…But are they serious???
Beth posted on their proposed new wrappers which sound good…Searching for a video I came across this one…Which does seem to pose doubts …What do you think?

That is all from me for this week I look forward to your comments…How are you reducing your families carbon footprints?

About Carol Taylor:

Enjoying life in The Land Of Smiles I am having so much fun researching, finding new, authentic recipes both Thai and International to share with you. New recipes gleaned from those who I have met on my travels or are just passing through and stopped for a while. I hope you enjoy them.

I love shopping at the local markets, finding fresh, natural ingredients, new strange fruits and vegetable ones I have never seen or cooked with. I am generally the only European person and attract much attention and I love to try what I am offered and when I smile and say Aroy or Saab as it is here in the north I am met with much smiling.

Some of my recipes may not be in line with traditional ingredients and methods of cooking but are recipes I know and have become to love and maybe if you dare to try you will too. You will always get more than just a recipe from me as I love to research and find out what other properties the ingredients I use contain to improve our health and wellbeing.

The environment is also something I am passionate about and there are now regular columns on my blog this year. It is important that we are mindful of the world we live in…We all need to be aware of our homes carbon footprints…where does our food come from? How far does it travel…Simple to do but if we all did it…Not only would we support local businesses but reduce our carbon footprint…

Thank you Carol. Lilly and Autumn are truly inspiring “old souls.” The water here in Ireland is still a work in progress, but happily we have long since ditched single use plastic bags. 8 plastic bags a day is shocking.

I was wondering that as I haven’t come across any males like these girls although there could be and I don’t know it …Maybe women are more passionate about our world…

Hi, Carol. As always with your environmental and recycling posts, this is incredibly interesting and encouraging. We are lucky to have strong proactive young women as you have shared in this post. I did wonder about the benefits of making cranes from packaging (it’s still waste eventually) as you described in a previous post. Thanks for keeping us informed and on our toes.
