Hello and welcome to this weeks edition of recycling and climate change news from around the world. Covid-19 is still dominating the news… many countries now are relaxing their quarantines and already some are seeing an increase in new cases I am guessing it is not over yet…But we soldier on…
Israeli researchers have come up with a brilliant new prototype for a self-cleaning face mask which can kill pathogens—such as COVID-19—simply by drawing power from a smartphone charger
Since announcing the success of their innovative device this week, a Technion spokesperson told reporters that the researchers have already filed a patent application for the mask with the aim of making it commercially available in the United States for just $1.
That being said, the team has not yet commented on whether the mask will be made available in Europe.
But what about the climate how has the coronavirus slashed carbon emissions? What news will this new month reveal?
My hopes for the future include a cleaner world… I do want to see communities, and caring for your neighbour becoming the new norm…WORKING TOGETHER INSTEAD OF WORKING AGAINST EACH OTHER…Can we make this happen? Are we willing to make a stand? Personally, I would love to see lessons learnt ..realistically I have my doubts…
Plastic is still in the news…we are using far too much…
How shocking is this? A team of German-Swiss researchers has found that microscopic particles of plastic are falling out of the sky with snow in the Arctic. Researchers collected snow samples from the Svalbard islands using a low-tech method – a dessert spoon and a flask. They found more than 10,000 of them per litre of melted snow.
What if we didn’t have plastic?
Interesting…What would you rather?
Toilet paper shortages...Forests decimated to make our toilet paper…Do we really need it!
Asians rarely use toilet paper all houses are equipped with bum guns as we call them…
I myself absolutely dislike seeing dirty waterways…This river has a legal identity and if you pollute the river it can sue you…
In 2017, the Whanganui in New Zealand was granted legal rights. Like corporations, which have legal rights in many countries, this river is a rights-bearing entity whose rights can be enforced by local communities and individuals in court. Locals are starting to reap the benefits of this new legislation.
Have you heard of Metro Farms? Vegetables are grown under L.E.D. lighting…
Do you grow your own? By saving and swapping seeds you can preserve agricultural heritage.
However, not everything will take root or bear fruit…At the moment I am sprouting a sweet potato the leaves are growing quite quickly we will see whether I get sweet
potatoes …If I seed white potatoes I do get potatoes from them so we will see…
I know we were all getting excited that this lockdown was having a positive effect and yes it is in many areas but we still need to be aware and this article is a very good one…I also watched their podcast which was interesting as Zeke Hausfather talked about the effect aerosols have…Personally, I don’t use aerosols at all now and haven’t done for a few years…Do I miss them actually no most things last longer…But do they make a difference for the good??? Or was I correct to stop using them???
That’s all for this week…we are in our rainy season now so hot steamy days and stormy nights so everything is growing super quick…
Thank you for reading be well and stay safe xxx
About Carol Taylor: Enjoying life in The Land Of Smiles I am having so much fun researching, finding new, authentic recipes both Thai and International to share with you. New recipes gleaned from those who I have met on my travels or are just passing through and stopped for a while. I hope you enjoy them.
I love shopping at the local markets, finding fresh, natural ingredients, new strange fruits and vegetable ones I have never seen or cooked with. I am generally the only European person and attract much attention and I love to try what I am offered and when I smile and say Aroy or Saab as it is here in the north I am met with much smiling.
Some of my recipes may not be in line with traditional ingredients and methods of cooking but are recipes I know and have become to love and maybe if you dare to try you will too. You will always get more than just a recipe from me as I love to research and find out what other properties the ingredients I use contain to improve our health and wellbeing.
Exciting for me hence the title of my blog, Retired No One Told Me! I am having a wonderful ride and don’t want to get off, so if you wish to follow me on my adventures, then welcome! Thank you once again for reading this post I hope you all stay safe and healthy xx
I agree with you about the probability of a big Corona spike as a result of the mass protests. The CDC is very concerned.

I loved the video on vertical farming. I prefer growing edible crops outside, but if vertical farming means no pesticide, I think it’s a great thing. If it continues to grow in popularity, we may end up repurposing those awful skyscrapers as farming communities. 🙂

I agree outside is best but no pesticides is even better for our health…wouldn’t that be an improvement all round…Bring it on!

Our world has such a dichotomy between those who have the brilliance to come up with fabulous new inventions, and others who still operate at a moronic level with hearts filled with hate.
Thank goodness we’ve progressed from using a communal sponge in their latrines like the ancient Romans. It’s pretty wild to think that only the wealthy could afford toilet paper at one time.

Sadly you are correct, Pete somehow I can’t see that ever changing.
Yes the communial sponge made me cringe.. I also remember newpaper squares in the outside loo and sometimes we were treated to a roll of izal which was medicated no less… 😀…its
… bum guns for us such is progress… Toilet paper is so last year… Haha…. Be well and stay safe, Pete judging by the news you now have riots and looting to contend with as well as Corona virus….

Even though I live in tropics, plastic falling from the sky with snow seems more scary than Covid-19, to tell the truth. What are we doing to our planet?

I would love a self cleaning mask. I have doubts that someone would not get greedy and charge a fortune for them causing it to also be the haves and the have nots. The current state of affairs here in the US is probably the cause of my doubt. Thank you for another informative psot.

Thank you for reading and your kind words, Lauren..I had the same thoughts on those masks myself 🙂

There is so very much to absorb here, so I’ll comment on just one: self-cleaning masks. I’d love to have one!
Thanks, as always, for a newsy post, Carol!

I think I could reduce my consumption of plastic, but I don’t think I could stop using toilet paper… 🙂
