Welcome to my new series…still an A-Z but with a difference …it’s not food-related!
In the meantime, the idea for this series came about because yes as my regular followers and commenters know I am passionate about the health of the world I am living in… however often when I am researching and reading articles I come across terms and have to look them up which spawned the idea for this…two-fold… it increases my knowledge and I hope yours…
The A-Z of the environment and Climate Change… letter C.
The best way to predict your future is to create it...Abraham Lincoln.
Carbon Emissions is the term often used when carbon is released into the atmosphere…Quite simply greenhouse gas emissions are the main contributor to Climate Change.
Greenhouse gases are often calculated as Carbon Dioxide equivalents referred to as Carbon Emissions when there are discussions on Global Warming to the greenhouse effect.
For aeons, the burning of fossil fuels has been a big source of carbon emissions…since the Industrial Revolution burning fossil fuels to power industry has increased and it is said the increase in Carbon gases are the causes and have a direct correlation to the increase of Carbon Dioxide and the rapid increase in Global warming figures.
Carbon Footprint:
Our carbon footprint is measured by our travelling and by our shopping purchases in other words where our goods originate from and how far they travel to reach our front door…Sounds simple to arrive at a solution…but is it?
Yes, we could change our mode of transport…there are electric cars…we could ditch our cars and walk or use a bicycle…That is fine if everything we do is within a reasonable distance from our house…
But how else can we reduce our Carbon Footprint this post details how and much of it requires only small changes from us…
Climate Change:
Climate change describes a change in the average conditions — such as temperature and rainfall.
Global climate change refers to the average long-term changes over the entire Earth. These include warming temperatures and changes in precipitation, as well as the effects of Earth’s warming, such as:
- Rising sea levels
- Shrinking mountain glaciers
- Ice melting at a faster rate than usual in Greenland, Antarctica and the Arctic
- Changes in flower and plant blooming times.
Although I understand some of the changes and what we can do to slow it down however I also know that the earth has gone through changes over the centuries so how much can we manipulate and stop what is happening and how much is just a fact of life ???
That’s all for today…I hope I have explained it in layman terms and made some things clearer as I believe we should all have a clearer picture in our minds as to what we can change and how…
See you in two weeks for the letter D…next Wednesday it will be Part 2 of the new A-Z on food and terms with the middle letter being C as in popCorn.
Thank you for reading and please leave a comment if you feel a need… I love to chat it makes my day…Love Carol x
The animals, plants, insects and fungi are so important, we must think about how our actions affect the environment.

When teaching climate change, I would ask my students to list things that they could do to help. It was great when they would think outside the box and come up with things I never thought of.

And did they? Their answers must have been interesting..

I often wonder about the carbon footprint of news reports. They fly a team to some far-flung land to stand in front of a battle in a war-torn country and say there’s a war there. They could say that from the studio in London, using widely-available news footage from local film crews in that country.
Best wishes, Pete.
