I am not often moved to reblog posts of blatant racism…This has appalled and scared me that the society that I thought was made up of people who were mainly kind and caring seems not to be the case …this is endemic and carried out because they can knowing that most of the time no action will be taken…They were children and an elderly lady both of whom society should be nurturing and respecting…A sad day for me as I have finally realised the truth….
Late last night, long after most people were snoring and dreaming dreams of camels in the desert or picnics in the park, I had just finished responding to comments and preparing my music post for this morning. I thought, since it was only 3:20 a.m., I would go ahead and get a start on trolling the news stories of the day, trying to find a focal point for my afternoon post. And then I saw this headline …
Iowa Woman Admits to Hitting Children With Car Because of Their Ethnicity
And, as I have done so many times over the past few years, I felt tears well up, and then I cursed, slamming my fist into the table and saying, “F$&@ Y$#, B@#%*!” No apologies for the language this time … this ‘woman’ deserves that and more.
Her name is Nicole Poole Franklin and she is 43 years old.

I agree, Debs the world or some of the people in it are very evil and we are the only ones by being kind and inclusive who can stop it or make a difference Hugs xx

Totally and thoroughly disgusted, Carol. I don’t get angry often, but this makes me livid. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I left a comment over on Jill’s blog.

Racism and discrimination in all its forms is indeed the ugliest thing. Hopefully with Biden in it will become less socially acceptable to be overtly racist, especially in the police, but even in the UK with Brexit and Bojo/trump things are maybe worse than they were, even if maybe not the same level as the USA. I think unfortunately a lot of it is upbringing without enough positive impact the other way in schooling and social media is making it worse as it just provides you with more people who think like you and reinforces the idea that it is ok to hate sections of society.

I do think you are correct about social media being an outlet for hate.. I also think social media should be more vigilant and watchful as it comes in many forms like this trolling etc…

Thank you so much for the re-blog!!! The more people become aware of this and other such incidents, the closer we come to finding solutions. At least, I hope.

I’m so sorry, Carol, and disgusted by my country. The racism is baffling and horrifying here in the US. It always has been, but it wasn’t as overt. The only positive thing I can say is that now its so blatant that most people can’t look away and the fight for change has found significant momentum. Unfortunately, we still have a huge right-wing contingent who denies the humanity and rights of brown people, and half of them are in our government. Change can’t happen soon enough.

It isn’t you fault Diana and I have many decent friends and family in the US…my son raised a good point when he asked me what about the little 5 yr white boy who was shot by a man of colour and although reported there wasn’t the to out cry from the public..he blames the news outlets for being selective and fueling the race card and thinks that whatever your race or creed you should be afforded the same rules…what concerned me the most with the elderly lady was that those policeman had body cams and still did what they did as no doubt they knew nothing would likely come of it ..blatant cruelty like that seems to be indemic in the police force and that is scary as so far no great changes have been made…Like you I believe change cannot happen fast enough x

I don’t think “what abouts” are helpful to be honest, Carol. The murder of black and brown people and the inequalities in the US justice (and other) systems needs more press since so many people here deny it’s an issue. It doesn’t mean that other murders and injustice aren’t horrible too. Sigh. It wears me down.

I remember reading that story as well, and thinking how could a person have such hate, and then act on that hate? A sad state of affairs, indeed…

I hadn’t heard it before , Jim and for me it shocked me as I thought of Aston and Lily…I don’t understand all this hate and neither do I want to I just would like to see an end to it x

yes, it’s hard to think what it takes to turn into that kind of person, since I don’t think we are born that way…

I know they talk about genes etc, Jim but I don’t know what to think that fosters so much hate and prejudice x

this is so sick and horrible. I do think it’s important to put out there, so we know what we’re up against and can work to change it

Unfortunately, this is nothing new, along with the fact that we’re just hearing about it and that it sounds like she will be found unfit to stand trial and possibly get off without any punishment is not new, either…

No it is not new…it just saddens me that we can’t all just get along and enjoy our differences…our family is mixed and its fun learning and discovering about our backgrounds, traditions and food it has enriched all our lives…

Pete, it absolutely horrified me I found it hard to believe such evil and even harder to realise that particularly the police know that they can get away with such treatment of a fellow human being and an elerdly lady it broke my heart and that other woman and those poor children defied belief…my grandchildren are of colour and to think someone could just run them over because of their skin colour….I am beyond appalled but not surprised…x
