As the New Zealanders call this fruit “Green Gold” with its powerful distinctive fragrance they eagerly wait for it to come into its season…when it does it can be found on every market and sometimes there is so much it is knowing what to do with it all…
It looks like lime when cut a bit like a cucumber …Native to the highlands of southern Brazil, it is often cultivated as an ornamental tree that is loved for its fruit…Like a kiwi fruit, you just cut in half and scoop out the “green gold”
A versatile fruit that is used in baking, confectionary, chutney, smoothies, salads and even alcohol…
The fruit is available in Australia in small quantities sold in specialist shops and at high prices.
Here in Thailand it is a backyard fruit and called Farang Boran which means old fashioned fruit…
Also called the pineapple Guava because of the taste, which is a cross between pineapple the quince and guava…
As you know I am a believer in wasting nothing…the skins have a tart flavour but hey like the lemon and the lime they can be used in both sweet and savoury dishes to give your smoothie a bit of added oomph just chuck in a few bits of skin…
Or save the skins in a little pot in the freezer and when you enough you can surprise surprise…Pickle them…said to be much like when I pickle watermelon rinds you can use this pickle on meats, as part of a cheeseboard, in a salad, or even wrapped in bacon and we all know bacon makes everything super delish…
Me I quite fancy the chutney if I can find some Feijoa fruits here…However, if you are one of the lucky ones and you have lots, here are two recipes for you: a chutney and a cake and some extra info about this lovely unusual fruit…
As an ornamental tree in the garden, it must look spectacular when it flowers…They are stunning …
Thank you for joining me today and thank you, Pete, for sharing the name of this fruit and piquing not only my interest but a topic for a post…
Have a great weekend everyone…xx
Also very new to me, Carol! But it looks like very interesting, and i have to look for them at Metro (Tesco). xx Michael
