Saturday Snippets 7th August 2021…It’s Gold!

Welcome to Saturday Snippets where I indulge my whimsy and my passions… maybe a tune or two…something which has caught my eye this last week…just anything out of the ordinary or extraordinary…

For the last few weeks, I have taken inspiration from something I have read or watched… for the past two weeks I have been watching the  Olympics…

My top favourite sport is the Equestrian events HOWEVER I love many of the others, the stories, overcoming adversity, the very young and the older contestants but most of all the camaraderie the fact that the one who comes second is the first to congratulate the winner…So much spirit it is lovely to watch the elation…the sheer exhaustion after giving OF ones absolute best… the heartbreak all those emotions play their part but the sheer will of the competitors to give their absolute best is so very apparent it gives me pride and hope…I love watching the Olympics…Last week my word was Tokyo today it is GOLD

Come with me and see what I discovered…

The Gold Coast, Australia.

Why do they call it the Gold Coast…

The Gold Coast was originally known as the South Coast…because it was south of Brisbane
HOWEVER over-inflated prices of real estate and other goods and services led to the nickname
“Gold Coast in the 1950s…It took a while to catch on as South Coast locals considered the
name “Gold Coast to be derogatory.

An icon with an amazing voice…Shirley Bassey is the only singer to have performed more than one bond theme she recorded the themes to Goldfinger, Diamonds are Forever and Moonraker.

Golden Delicious Apples:

A yellow thin-skinned apple…Golden delicious bruises quite easily so are best eaten quite quickly as it doesn’t store well…Used for pies, salads, sauces, and it freezes well.

Golden Retriever:

The Golden Retriever, an exuberant Scottish gundog of great beauty, stands among America’s most popular dog breeds. They are serious workers at hunting and fieldwork, as guides for the blind, and in search-and-rescue, enjoy obedience and other competitive events, and have an endearing love of life when not at work.
The Golden Retriever is a sturdy, muscular dog of medium size, famous for the dense, lustrous coat of gold that gives the breed its name.

The Gold Experience…Studio Album by Prince.

The Gold Experience is the 17th full-length studio album by Prince and the first to be released using the name SymbolSmallerBlue.pngafter Prince changed his name in 1993 to the unpronounceable symbol that first appeared on his 1992 album. It was released worldwide in September 1995 (13 months after his previous new release Come and eleven months after “The Black Album”).

Goldfish:

I don’t know any kid who hasn’t had a goldfish as a pet or won a goldfish at a funfair…Goldfish live forever it seems that way when you are a child… in the wild, they can live for 41 years…

Goldfish like many freshwater fish are edible but they will taste like what they consume …they themselves were once dinner…Modern goldfish (Carassius auratus auratus) are a domesticated version of a wild carp from east Asia. Their wild ancestor was silver-grey. Known as “chi”, it was at one time the most common fish eaten in China.

Gold Kiwi:

I haven’t eaten a gold kiwi although I did have a green one earlier today…Apart from the colour, there are slight differences between the green and gold kiwi fruit…Golden kiwi does contain a slightly higher vitamin C content and about thirty per cent more folate, although green kiwis are a better source of dietary fibre and are lower in sugar. In any case, both varieties of this tropical fruit pack a nutritious punch and are a healthy, tasty addition to any diet.

Golden Warrior...Gold Lightan is the leader of the Golden Warrior team. ..

Aime…

Golden Milk:

Golden milk is a traditional Indian drink that has its roots in Ayurveda. It has been a part of Indian culture for centuries. The drink is bright gold, stemming from yellow turmeric mixed into white milk. Its striking appearance has made it a common sight at niche cafés listed as a “turmeric latte” and at speciality grocery stores around the world in recent years.

It is easy enough to make your own golden paste for Golden milk…

Golden Paste:

  • 1/2 cup Organic Turmeric Powder
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1.5 teaspoons black pepper
  • 5 Tablespoons virgin coconut oil

In a stainless steel pot, cook the water, turmeric and black pepper until it forms a thick paste, stirring and cooking for about 7-10 minutes.  Remove from heat and add virgin coconut oil, using a whisk to fully mix in the coconut oil.  Transfer the Golden Paste into a glass jar with a lid, and store it in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. You will use this paste to make your Golden Milk below.

Golden Milk…

  • 1 teaspoon Golden Paste
  • 2 cups of milk
  • 1/8 teaspoon vanilla (optional)
  • Honey to taste (optional)
  • Pinch cinnamon (optional)

In a stainless steel pot, gently heat, but do not boil, 2 cups of milk with 1 teaspoon of golden paste.  A whisk is helpful to fully mix the paste into the milk. Add optional vanilla, honey, and/or cinnamon.

Next time you think about having a cup of coffee, try some Golden Milk instead. Drinking a cup of Golden Milk every day could keep the doctor away!  Golden Paste can also be used in smoothies, to make salad dressings, in curries, or any way your heart desires, and pets love golden paste too!

Gold Rush Film:

The first Gold Rush Film came out in 1925…Since then there have been many too numerous to mention… I prefer the Looney tune one…

Of course, there are also many gold coloured curries, Khow Soi and Jungle curry being just two…Here is a quick Gold Curry Paste which you knock in 20 minutes…To the curry paste, you can add chicken or fish or just some lovely vegetables…

Gold Curry Paste:

  • 2 tsp coriander seeds
  • 2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 6 cloves garlic peeled
  • 1 onion peeled and roughly chopped
  • 2 tbsp ginger peeled and roughly chopped
  • 2 red chilli peppers chopped and deseeded
  • 1 tbsp ground turmeric
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp sugar

To make the curry paste blitz all the ingredients then cook-off in some Ghee or olive oil for about 5 mins this is then the base for your curry…

Recipe to follow next week…or in the meantime if you want to have a go yourself just add some veggies for a nice vegetarian or vegan curry or some white fish or chicken and some extra spice and some coconut milk maybe a few shallots.

Gold vermeil:

Gold vermeil is one of the most unique gold materials found in jewellery because it combines both. 925 sterling silver and real gold. This makes a high-quality durable piece of jewellery at an affordable cost.

Vegetable Gold…

Saffron is known as vegetable gold it comes from a purple crocus flower Crocus sativus…an orange-coloured condiment consisting of its dried stigmas used to colour and flavour foods.

Kashmiri saffron is well known for its exotic aroma and as a flavour in culinary preparation. Kashmiri saffron has a deep dark maroonish-purple hue. While Persian saffron has about 70% of total world production,  quality Kashmiri saffron is the best and finest.

Gold Rush…Cocktail.

Composed of bourbon, honey syrup and fresh lemon juice, it’s essentially a Whiskey Sour with honey in place of sugar (or a bourbon-spiked take on the Bee’s Knees, if you prefer). But that whiskey-honey combination transforms the cocktail’s flavour and mouthfeel, making the Gold Rush a drink all its own.

Thank you for joining me for Saturday Snippets I hope you have enjoyed GOLD….

An UPDATE on my darling Daughter…She has had an operation and now a CT scan..waiting for a bone scan…if I haven’t visited your blog or left a comment some days I just can’t think…the same as my blog….I am reblogging and some days I can write it depends my brain is going all ways some good some bad…Please bear with me…xx

I think your themed posts have become some of my favorites. Shirley Bassey has such a stage presence. Golden delicious apples are one of my favorites. Tango, our precious golden retriever, was one of our best dogs ever. A gold rush sounds mighty tasty.

it has been fun watching the Olympics; I have not caught any of the equestrian events – do you know if Jessica Springsteen is doing OK? We had a golden retriever for many years – it was a great family dog. I’ve never heard of a golden kiwi, I’ll keep my eye out for one. Love the Looney Tunes film 🙂

Carol, only you could find so many ‘gold’ items! What a perfect topic for Saturday Snippets while we’re in the midst of the Olympics. I am partial to the Looney Tunes cartoon. Happy weekend!
