My Culinary A-Z, Music …it’s National Fig week in the US… Fire-Water, Fig recipes and Sweet Mincemeat…Music by Sam Smith(Watership Down)
I cannot believe we are one week into November and coming up to 3 yrs of covid who would have thunk 2 years ago?
November 7th …at 2 A.M. is the end of Daylight Saving Time. Set your clocks back one hour on Saturday night at bedtime!… Personally, I think it is about time this is scrapped…What do you think?
Benjamin Franklin’s “An Economical Project,” written in 1784, is the earliest known proposal to “save” daylight. It was whimsical in tone, advocating laws to compel citizens to rise at the crack of dawn to save the expense of candlelight:
“Every morning, as soon as the Sun rises, let all the bells in every church be set ringing: and if that is not sufficient, let cannon be fired in every street to wake the sluggards effectually… . Oblige a man to rise at four in the morning, and it is probable that he will go willingly to bed at eight in the evening.”
It might have been pertinent then but now???
This weeks Tune…November Rain…
Only 48 sleeps…Just saying!
Figs…National Fig Week…There are so many National Days now and many are just marketing exercises… HOWEVER when it is something that I enjoy I will promote it with recipes…I hope you enjoy these recipes…The Fig Newtons will follow next week…I have my figs albeit they are dried ones and I had to shop online but they arrived yesterday lovely Turkish Figs which feel very soft through the packet so I am looking forward to baking with them…
National Fig Week…1-7th July 2021…
When your sauce always thickens during the cooking time and then one day it just doesn’t ...this is what happened to us last week however it gave me an idea for a blog post…it was a new untried recipe using the fruits of my “long Pepper” plant the first of many I hope…Next time I make the recipe I will use far less liquid the measurements were way out which I come across occasionally with recipes when they are not tried and tested just copied…
Once I have tested it a few more times I will share it but once the sauce had reduced and thickened it was a beautiful dish that just needs a little tweaking in my kitchen…SHOUT OUT to my Indian blogging friends if you have any recipes using “Long Peppers” please share with me as I understand they are used more in Indian Cookery…x
When your curry sauce just won’t thicken…The Solution!
This week it was the letter R...Much easier on the grey matter than the letter Q…
Thank you Pete for your contributions…toRte, cheRries, horseRadish, bouRbon, miRin, speaRmint, escaRgots, and choRizo.xx
The Culinary Alphabet…A-Z…The Middle Letter R…

Christmas Crafts…D.I.Y crackers, Advent Calendars…Sweet Mincemeat…
Saturday Snippets…my muse is being a bit flighty lately she comes and goes…it wasn’t until I was reading Clive’s blog on Guy Fawkes that “Fire” Jumped out at me so ‘Fire” it is …Thank you Clive for the inspiration… I hope you enjoy what this hot one-word prompt produced…
Saturday Snippets 6th November 2021…Fire!

Another terrific week Carol.. I am not good at all about pre-Christmas prep… however we are going to have turkey this year… with all the trimmings. As only two of us a Turkey Crown which should provide enough obligatory left overs…will share in tomorrow’s blogger daily.. thanks for sharing the health post..♥

That sounds lovely Sally I love turkey and all the trimmings..I have always had to plan Christmas…having 6 kids and grand ma’s and grandads plus any single friends of which there were always some either of ours or the kids I don’t think I have ever had less than 15 people and often more especially when the kids had kids we had two tables one set up for the kids and one for the adults then of course when we had the bar Christmas dinner was in two settings and we were always fully booked from one Christmas to the next so planning and making what I could in advance was key…Christmas has always been so busy for me I would love to just be able to cook for two…That would be heaven Hugs xx

lol – I did /not/ need to know it’s only 48 days! That said, I’m now starting to wonder if there’ll be a family get together this year. I think I’ve forgotten what everyone looks like.
