1958 Jerry Lee Lewis’s “Great Balls of Fire” reaches #1 on the UK pop charts…
Jerry Lee Lewis is one of the first true rock ‘n’ roll musicians. He catapulted to fame with his 1957 hit, “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On,” and proved to the world that a piano man could play front and centre on the world’s biggest stages. He has stirred up some trouble in his days, once setting a piano on fire on stage with a Coca-Cola bottle of gasoline to close out the show.
I was brought up on the books of The Wizard of Oz and my mother told me that these were great philosophies. It was a very simple philosophy, that everybody had a heart, that everybody had a brain, that everybody had courage. These were the gifts that are given to you when you come on this earth, and if you use them properly, you reach the pot at the end of the rainbow. And that pot of gold was a home. And home isn’t just a house or an abode, it’s people, people who love you and that you love. That’s home.
– Ray Bolger
Ray Bolger, an American actor and dancer, played the Straw Man(Scarecrow) in ‘The Wizard of Oz’ and was the film’s last surviving star, when he died at the age of 83 on January 15th 1987.

Let the cats rule the world. 😉 Some cat owners should think overthink her wish of companionship, before inviting kitties, living with them. xx Michael

HI Carol, I must admit that I thought the cat story was ridiculous. What is wrong with some people? Imagine if they had a child. I think that some current and recent presidents have sorely tested the idea that everyone has a brain [haha!]

I sometimes have difficulty separating musicians from their personal lives—not that I’m a saint. I like the song Great Balls of Fire, but I looked at Jerry Lee Lewis in a different light after reading that he married a 13-year-old (his third cousin). I was the same way with Michael Jackson. I could still admire the music, but it changed how I felt about the person.

I’m with you on those sentiments, Pete it was a topic of conversation just the other night here especially as a member of our Royal family is in the news everywhere at the moment…It seems to be thought of as a right of passage in certain sections of the community or more to the point “you can’t touch me” and has been largely ignored although I must say much has come to light over recent years as it seems people are saying it is wrong as we both know it is…x

THANK YOU for including my most recent blog post in your Monday Musings! I also loved your WIZARD OF OZ clip and Ray Bolger quotation: “Home isn’t just a house or an abode, it’s people, people who love you and that you love. That’s home.” I love this idea, and I also love that song (which I recorded a few years ago and released last year to various digital music platforms). Switching to another topic, isn’t it odd the way that our magical technologies must be relentlessly updated? I often wonder how many billions of hours of our lives have been wasted due to having to learn yet another upgrade… One of my great grandfathers was a blacksmith, and I am pretty sure that he didn’t have to endlessly re-learn how to do his job. Deep breath in. Deep breath out.

You are very welcome, Will…I also loved the Ray Bolger quote…I agree with the updates they drive me crazy and what drives me even crazier is the fact that it doesn’t matter if our appliances are in good working order if the manufacturer (Apple) decides that it is too old to support updates i.e my iPad which I use to play music mainly now no longer supports utube as its supposedly too old however for free apple will dispose of it for me….like I’m going to give it to them…rant over…I think I need to follow your example, Will Deep breath in. Deep breath out.
