Welcome to Saturday Snippets ..my one-word prompt today is YEAR that was also a given really, wasn’t it?….as it’s the start of a New Year…The year 2022!
I can’t, however, take all the credit for that as New Year was suggested a while back by Diana who pens the mythsofthemirror blog but I saved it for now as it seemed more apt…Thank you Diana x
I thought this song fitted perfectly with the prompt..
The vibrant red and gold banners are going up around the town...preparations have started for Chinese New Year…The Year of the Tiger.
Chinese New Year, Spring Festival or the Lunar New Year, is the festival that celebrates the beginning of a new year on the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar. Chinese New Year 2022 will fall on Tuesday, February 1st, 2022, starting a year of the Tiger.
Did you know?
While most people don’t think of Argentina as being a ski destination, for the intrepid winter sports lover, Argentina should be a destination of choice. One of the highest ski resorts in Argentina, Las Leñas has altitude to thank for its reliable snow year-round.
It may also be tempting to head to the beach while in Argentina, so you can spend a few days getting some sun, then hop on a 90-minute flight from Buenos Aires to enjoy the ultra-dry powder and unique conditions that make this destination so attractive for skiers. So, for this trip, you’ll need to pack your sunscreen and your snowshoes, but it will be a memorable trip, to say the least!
Year Million …Year Million is a six-part documentary and science fiction television series produced by the National Geographic Channel…A TV mini-series that gives an in depth look into what our future will look like when technology takes over, for better or worse…exploring life in the near and distant future, where artificial intelligence is everywhere and advances in medicine and biology …
I really like this National Geographic series…Have you watched this???
Real Roses that last a year??… The roses are preserved at the peak of their natural beauty and freshness for up to a year or longer. preserved roses are authentic Ecuadorian real flowers that undergo a special preservation process to keep their beauty for a long time. These fresh roses get cut at the stage where they are most radiant. The roses are then treated and conserved in a manner that maintains their freshness and beauty, ready to be part of a beautiful arrangement. The preservation process of our eternity roses helps them last for many years. These long-lasting roses sometimes are referred to as eternity roses, preserved roses, eternal flowers, forever roses, everlasting roses, or infinity roses…
The YEAR Niagra Falls dried up…1969…Niagara Falls, which is actually comprised of three waterfalls — the American, the Bridal Veil and the Horseshoe — was diminished by one, as the American fall was reduced to just a trickle, so it could be studied by U.S. engineers and geologists.
Thank you for reading Saturday Snippets…The year was quite difficult to come up with anything connected unless I used numbers and then it would be akin to war and peace…hahaha but thank you for sticking with it… I hope you liked the music…I look forward to your comments…Have a great weekend xx

Pingback: CarolCooks2 weekly roundup… 9th-15th January 2022-Monday Musings, Health, Ezekiel Bread, Stale Bread and Saturday Snippets, | Retired? No one told me!
When somebody throws out the category “one-hit wonders,” I think of Zager and Evans. I was 10 or 11 years old when this song first came out in 1969. I remember it being around when I first started paying attention to music on the radio.
It is fascinating to think what life will be like years from now when we’re not around. Year 1,000,000? Not sure it will ever happen, but if it does, would I want to be around to see it?

I’m with you on that, Pete but it always fascinates me that’s why I am interested to watch Nat Geographics “Year Million” I have always thought we know little of the real advances of the technological/medical world only what the powers that be deign we should…as for one-hit wonders when its such a powerful song one does wonder why just that one…I hope you are having a great weekend, Pete 🙂 x

A terrific list, Carol! The music especially crosses many decades…did you know that Zager & Evans held the record for the biggest “one and done” career in music? A worldwide smash hit that you have linked to, and not another song to ever chart again in the top 200!

Fun snippets, Carol! I’m honored that your inspiration came from our conversation. Wonderful music to go along. Happy Year of the Tiger. (I hope it’s much improved over the Years of the Covid!) And thanks for the tip on Year Million. I love shows like that and hadn’t heard of this one. And “eternity roses!” A story popped into my head about those… someone who tries to preserve a loved one using the same technique. Eek and Lol. Thanks so much for the shoutout and link. Have a wonderful weekend. 🙂

The word ‘year’ brought to mind a poem of Marianne Moore, “What are Years?” It was one of those poems I had to memorize in school, back in the day when kids were asked to do so! https://www.poemhunter.com/poem/what-are-years/

It’s a lovely poem, Dorothy isn’t it wonderful how a word or subject triggers a memory of something learnt years before…Thank you for the link 🙂 x

Blimey, where did you dig up Zager and Evans from! The epitome of a one hit wonder! Never been a big fan of Simply Red, but I do remember that song being used to superb effect in a scene from Only Fools And Horses. The beauty of music is that we can all choose different songs to match a mood, or a word – I couldn’t have done this without including Steely Dan, for example 😊 x
