Saturday Snippets…12th February 2022…Today’s one word prompt is “ Face”

Welcome to Saturday Snippets one-word prompt today is “Face”

Where did the word “Face” come from? It is like every one-word prompt my muse just drops it in my lap…I was ruminating and conjugating and just about to give up when a comment by Clive of Take It Easy blog gave me inspiration and a tune… thus  “Face” then came to me as a prompt…Thank you, Clive x…It also seemed a natural progression as your eyes are on your face…Spoiler Alert…I bet you don’t nose what the week after will likely be…

Face Card...

In a deck of playing cards, the term face card (US) or court card (British and US), and sometimes Royalty, is generally used to describe a card that depicts the Kings, Queens and Jacks.

Face Cord…

A face cord is an informal measurement for stacked firewood, sometimes called a rick. Width and height are typically the same as a cord (3.6 m3), but the depth can vary. The front face is the same as a cord 4 by 8 feet (1.2 by 2.4 m), hence the name.

Flowers with Faces…

Many of which are orchids the pansy and the Antirrhinum is a genus of plants commonly known as dragon flowers or snapdragons because of the flowers’ fancied resemblance to the face of a dragon that opens and closes its mouth when laterally squeezed…we used to have great fun with these when we were kids until our father caught us deflowering his antirrhinum’s…

Did you know?

The moon… Although the moon looks spherical, it is actually elongated, almost like a football. … And the reason he faces us at all times is that the moon rotates around its axis once with each revolution around the Earth so that the same face is always pointing earthward.

Face waterfall in Swarovski Crystal World Austria…

Hiding in the green hills of Wattens, Austria is a foliage-covered giant who spews a waterfall from his mouth and guards over a dozen fantastical crystal chambers beneath a hill… all owned by Swarovski.

Swarovski’s surreal museum/theme park Crystal Worlds was first opened back in 1995 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the company’s founding. Like something out of a fairy tale, the park’s main attraction is the “Chambers of Wonder” exhibition, which is contained within a green hill, the entrance of which is made to look like a crouching giant. The exhibition itself consists of over a dozen different rooms decked out in Swarovski crystals, creating uniquely themed, glittering spaces that could just as easily be a dwarf king’s treasure hall…a little girls dreamland…

Mount Rushmore…

Carved into the southeastern face of Mount Rushmore in South Dakota’s Black Hills National Forest are four gigantic sculptures depicting the faces of U.S. Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt.

The 60-foot high faces were shaped from the granite rock face between 1927 and 1941, and represent one of the world’s largest pieces of sculpture, as well as one of America’s most popular tourist attractions.

Who remembers those Smiley faces Potato Fries ?… Can you still buy them?

Robbie Williams…I could have chosen Ole Blue Eyes himself or Nat King Cole they also recorded “Let’s Face The Music and Dance…I am not a Robbie Williams fan and for someone who can’t really sing the boy done good…at least one of my daughters would kill me for saying that but he is a showman…

New Faces British Tv Show…

Saturday Night viewing…who remembers this?… New Faces was a British television talent show that aired in the 1970s and 1980s. It has been hosted by Leslie Crowther, Derek Hobson and Marti Caine…I loved the Marti Caine version…

Face to Face ... recorded by Daft Punk, Zack Williams, Disconnected, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Gary Barlow and Elton John…

Faces emoji…we are all familiar and use these…This began with Scott Fahlman in the 1980s when he first theorized ASCII characters could be used to create faces and demonstrate emotion in text. Since then, those Fahlman’s designs have become digital pictograms, known as emoticons. There are smiley faces wherever we go now…

Smiley Face …Smiley Face and its caves are a super popular boating location in the Okanagan. While today the fabled yellow smiley face may not always be present as the local graffiti artists regularly paint the area, the name still sticks.

The entire outer wall as well as most of the inner cave itself is covered with plenty of drawings and different kinds of writing. Smiley Face is located about a kilometre North of Gears Bay. The cave sits on the side of a 30ft tall cliff face. The area is perfect for learning how to cliff jump with the amazing underwater clearance and different elevations to jump from. It is a truly special place in the summer months.

Thank you for joining me today for Saturday Snippets…It’s always a fun and interesting post for me to write…as always I look forward to your comments and reminders of songs I forgot to mention or even didn’t know so keep them coming…

I hope you all have a brilliant weekend…xx

like Clive, I thought the first video was quite good.

I did not know that about the shape of the moon. How did I miss that in science class?

and nothing like Tom & Jerry to bring some good memories…

I love your Saturday Snippets. It does give one the freedom to go in many different directions. I was surprised that I can still remember many of the words to Itchykoo Park. I haven’t heard that song in several decades, and I was only nine years old when it came out.

I used to live in South Dakota (the home of Mt. Rushmore). We went back the year before Covid. I found a unique spot to stop off the road where there was an opening in the hills that allowed me to catch a rare profile view of George Washington’s face. While we were there, I got a photo of a guy dressed as Abe Lincoln. I kept thinking to myself—what a great gig. This guy gets paid to have people ask him to take a picture all day long.

Thank you, Pete, and yes it does give me so many ways to go…Like you, Pete I hadn’t listened to ItchyKoo Park for quite a while but still remember the words. I think it’s so lovely when a moment like yours happens and stays in our memories it’s what makes our lives/memories unique… that won’t happen when the world is full of AI’s…Just a thought!…Have a lovely Sunday 🙂 x

Carol, I love that you put a smile on today’s word! Terrific choices as always…I have recently gotten back into Pete Townsend’s great solo album “White City” and the great single “Face The Face!”

Thank you for the shout out, and perhaps it will come as no surprise that The Small Faces were my favourite of the tunes in this post – by a mile! Another interesting and fun piece, Carol 😊 x
