Welcome to Monday Musings…which could be about anything that has happened throughout the last week, something I have read or watched, it could be a pet peeve or almost anything.. welcome to my world!
I loved this post…it is such a great idea …
https://annikaperry.com/2020/12/13/wheres-the-power-button/
I have had a few enquiries about fake meat…I am not vegetarian or vegan so I don’t feel the need to buy these products… I rely on veggies and lentils for a meat-free meal…This podcast follows on from the rotisserie chicken podcast I posted and is one of two podcasts on Fake Meat…I am becoming more and more of a fan of podcasts as I can run it in the background while I do something else …which at the moment is hunting for recipes for green bananas and green mangos as I have lots of green mangos and a huge stalk of bananas with many hands of green bananas…
Part two will be aired here next Monday…
The last few weeks have left me with a mix of emotions…Of course, I am concerned about Climate Change… Global warming…Food Waste…I truly believe that we should all have the right to clean drinking water and food that does not contain chemicals, hormones and the like plus that clean food should be available to all and not just the ones who can afford it…
I have seen and am still seeing the effects that chemotherapy has had on my two daughters …one who has finished her chemo and apart from minor side effects has come through fairly easy although that probably isn’t the correct phrase as you have the mental anguish to cope with as well…she also still has another operation to contend with that will give her better odds on cancer not returning for the third time…
My other daughter has not been so lucky she has had severe side effects and many changes of chemo which means… we are hoping this one does not bring out the same awful side effects…
Covid..when will that end as the world relaxes the quarantines and the testing?… it visited our household luckily Aston only had mild symptoms and has now had two negative tests…we fingers crossed seem to have avoided covid unless we are really unlucky and are one of the ones where covid doesn’t present itself for a few weeks…
As if that wasn’t enough Putin decides he is going to add to the stress…I will not give him any more space on my blog… I have my own personal thoughts on him and his regime and know what I would love to do…I will however give space to the Ukrainians…From the president to the mayors of the towns they have stayed to fight..the people young and old many of whom have also stayed to fight…I salute you for your bravery and love of your country…
I understand why the world cannot intervene but many have provided the means for the people of Ukraine to fight plus the financial sanctions which hopefully will in the long term hit the aggressors where it hurts…
I also have fears that it will not stop there as I’m sure many of the surrounding countries do…Poland has stepped up as have other countries…humanity is shining through around the world… every time I watch the news the tears flow…I’m getting old and maudlin…
I am also fearful for the first time in my life that the nuclear button could be pressed…I hope that I am just being fearful for nothing and that common sense will prevail…which brings me to this video…Andrea from Meeks Mind has done the due diligence…I hadn’t a clue what I would do apart from panic if the unthinkable happened…I have watched most of the movies…well forget the moves common sense speaks here in this video…
I still have that fear because I have family and friends around the world and who knows who would be in the wrong place at the time…BUT I now know what I would do and I didn’t before…Thank you, Andrea x
Thank you all for joining me today…I look forward to your comments as always…Tomorrow it’s Chicken for the recipe…I hope yours is sustainable…
Have a lovely week and stay safe and well xxx

Sorry I’m late to the conversation, Carol. Between Ukraine, Putin, the massive floods we’ve had here [my state is fine] and finally getting my booster, I’ve let things slip. Really sorry to hear that the chemo is having such an awful effect on your daughter. Fingers crossed that she can cope with this one. -hugs-
Like you, I’ve been nursing fears about a nuclear holocaust so I’m glad Beau’s video helped. No knowing feeds the fear.
And finally, thanks for the typewriter story! I learned to type on one of those gorgeous old clicketty clacks and it brought back fond memories. That said, you’d have to take away my keyboard at the point of a gun!

Praying for your girls! I’m so sorry they and you are struggling. My mama heart goes out to you. I have the same fears about a nuclear attack and I’m also a Vegetarian but I raise meat for my husband who’s not a vegetarian ❤️. I raise chickens, rabbits, and soon we’ll be raising cows. So many horrible things going on it the world right now.

Thank you so much for your kind words it is hard being so far away most of the time I cope just sometimes it overwelms me… There is definitely so much going on at the moment… We have chickens, a turkey or two plus our family have pigs, cows and a fishing lake… I could not go back to inner city living…

I wish the best for your two daughters, hopefully the chemo treatments will be a thing of the past and they will return to full health. I’m happy to hear that Aston only had mild symptoms.
I loved the typewriter video, especially the line about disconnecting to connect.
I have tried to cut back on my consumption of fake meat, since they do contain a lot of ingredients that I know nothing about…

Carol, firstly thank you so much for sharing my post Where’s the Power Button and glad it caught your interest. I almost feel like I wrote in another era, of innocence and safety. Here in Europe we are shaken to the core and my heart goes out to the people … the devastation is horrific. Like you across the Atlantic there is so much fund-raising and I think the biggest amount raised in 24 hours ever … I hope it gets to where it is needed most ASAP. I am very sorry to read about your daughters and wishing them well. It must be so hard for them and you as their mother. Xx

You are very welcome Annika.. I love reading something different not the norm.. Europe it breaks my heart the absolute sheer cruelty because a man wants control at any cost and now he’s arresting thousands of his own countrymen because they dare to disagree all this knowing that if any country puts boots on the ground he can justify in his mind that they want war… Yes.. not sure I how I stay sane sometimes but we speak every day and they have a good support network.. Donna lives in Oz and Lauren the Uk I’m piggy in the middle…Thank you Annika please stay well and safe.. xxx

It is a fearful time, when common sense doesn’t seem to dictate solutions. I too enjoyed Meeks’ share of ‘what to do in a nuclear holocaust’.

Sorry to hear your daughter is having such a hard time. One of the things I learnt from chemo is how amazing our bodies are at renewing every single cell and keeping us healthy, we don’t appreciate that until we wreck nature’s system by putting poisons into ourselves – chemotherapy is exactly that! We can certainly imagine what it must be like for chemo patients, some of them children, having to evacuate from Ukraine.

Thank you, Janet she seems to have responded better to this new chemo, with less severe side effects I also feel so sorry for the children and the chemo patients caught in a war not of their own making and it breaks my heart x

A scary world out there right now but we have to stay positive. My prayers are with you and your girls. I feel for the children these days, in Ukrania and the rest of the world. We had the Cuban Missile Crisis which was scary but ended peacefully. The children today are seeing that war can happen. Have a great week and hope you find some good recipes. xo

Good luck for your girls, and positive thoughts from me. 🙂
Julie’s work had a girl’s night out last week, at a club in Norwich. She decided not to go, because of Covid and no masks. Now 5 of them have tested positive, one is quite ill, and the GP practice is short-staffed.
Best wishes, Pete. x

Thank you, Pete, for your positive thoughts for my girls…A good move on Julie’s part…I don’t know why people think it’s ok to not still practise safety precautions…because none of us knows if we contract covid what our symptoms would be… mild or severe…my mask is staying put x

It’s been a hard time for the world. Covid, for me, has reinforced not to take any relationship for granted. I found the video informative and not scary. We feel less fearful when we’re educated about anything.
