CarolCooks2 weekly roundup… 22nd -28th May 2022-Monday Musings, Health, Food Review “Real food v Processed Food” and Saturday Snippets where “Dance” is my one word prompt.

Welcome to my weekly roundup…The month of May …a spring month in the northern half of the world, and a fall month in the southern half. The month of many food days/months…National Asparagus, Egg, Salad, Salsa( today its mango salsa) and Strawberry Month to name a few…all foods I love which means there will be some recipes…I am concerned though about the statement the UN released about food shortages and just as concerned about the inability of the report on the FDA’s failings…(The full report ) will be in Monday Musings tomorrow…

Monday Musings…

One of my favourite posts as I can highlight other blogs or something I have watched or read…last week I shared a post from Chris who blogs @the story reading ape…a beautiful blue bee and its importance as a pollinator plus the heartwarming story of how children in Ireland learnt the Ukraine winning song in the Eurovision so they could sing it in the Ukraine language when they welcomed some Ukrainian children to their school it was so very touching…

Monday Musings…May 23rd 2022…

Today I shared my recipes for kebabs and I should be used to how cooking methods and the same recipe varies around the world indeed I do make kebabs where we skewer the meat with mushroom and peppers etc however I also use minced (ground ) meat to make kebabs and then form them around a lemongrass stalk I like this way as you can get far more flavour into the meat and the oils from the lemongrass also add their flavour …this method is quite popular in Asia…

Sally is rewinding our joint posts where she provides the nutritional and health benefits of Manganese this week and its importance in our diets… I provided recipes which use ingredients containing Manganese …I think that is such a cool idea as it’s all combined in one post with information and recipes…Please head over to have a read on the importance of including foods which contain Manganese in your diet.

Rice although I have cut it down to once a day for the last month and increased my veggies and fruit…rice is a staple for many and given the rumblings that all is not well globally with food production we have rising prices..of which the cynic in me is hoping they are not being artificially increased…the war in Ukraine and climate change are all a factor…it most likely will be the poorer nations which will feel any shortages the worst at the moment but I am hearing that certain products are missing from supermarket shelves in the western world…therefore there is a need to have a few things in your storecupboard whereby you can rustle up meals if need be…I don’t mean stockpiling… I mean being considerate to your fellow man…especially if they are elderly or infirm…

This week in my kitchen…Store Cupboard Basics…Part 3…Rice!

Today on Food Reviews I compared the health benefits and taste plus volume of making your own soup from scratch all you need is a saucepan and a liquidiser or stick blender plus a little more time but it can simmer away whilst you are doing something else the timer on my phone is an invaluable little tool…and nothing beats homemade soup…for comparison purposes, I used Tomato soup and chicken soup and of course the recipes for both…

Saturday Snippets...my most fun time of the week where I search for connections to my one word chosen prompt which this week was “Dance”

I believe we should all have music and dance in our lives…there is nothing like dancing in the rain or bopping around your kitchen when cooking, picking up a child and dancing around the room, we don’t have to have rhythm but just to dance even if we are all alone makes us happy we can lose ourselves in the music and dance…from Mick Jagger to Lady Gaga and those who come before and after I think the world and its wife have sung about dance…

I’ll leave this one for the ladies…

I have watched the film and listened to this song more times than I can count…

Thank you for joining me today I hope you are having a fabulous weekend as always I look forward to your comments I do hope you will join next week xxx

I’m still playing catchup, Carol. One of my best friends threw a Decade Party. It was fun, but a four-hour drive each way. I also love Flashdance and this song by Irene Cara.

Real food definitely has no contest but unfortunately I have Gastroparesis and the only thing that allows me to eat sometimes… is processed food! Gosh I’ve missed your posts though. Glad to be back to writing myself. Can’t wait to hear more about your teaser!
