Welcome to my weekly roundup …Wow, I can’t believe we are in June already halfway through the year…June is the first month of astronomical summer in the Northern Hemisphere and astronomical winter in the Southern Hemisphere…the roses are showing their pretty heads here plus it is the flower of the month June alongside its fragrant sister the lovely honeysuckle…my journey to the UK was not without its holdups…but the sunshine has come with me which is a bonus it is still got a chill in the air but it’s bracing …lol…
Food there are so many food “days around the world I will just stick to the International days/weeks /month…Today is International Falafel Day made from ground chickpeas, broad beans, or both. Falafel is a traditional Middle Eastern food, commonly served in a pita, which acts as a pocket, or wrapped in a flatbread known as taboon; “falafel” also frequently refers to a wrapped sandwich that is prepared in this way. The falafel balls are topped with salads, pickled vegetables, hot sauce, and drizzled with tahini-based sauces…June 18th is International Sushi day…but all the days have something in common …summer…
Monday Musings this last week was dedicated to the Queen on her Platnium Jubillee…70 years on the throne and without a whiff of personal scandal she has been a dedicated Queen to her country and the Commonwealth…

Adding a topping to a filling, whether it be chicken, fish, vegetables or other meats, adds sustenance and makes a meal go that little further…something we may all have to consider in the not too distant future…
CarolCooks2 in my kitchen…Chicken Pot Pie…
Welcome to my green kitchen where I bring you recipes mainly “bread”-smile- any kitchen tips and this month there are tips about Strawberry stems something I have always composted or shock horror binned…no longer there are a few things I just didn’t know about Strawberry stems…waste which is pet peeve and cookware which if chosen wisely is safe and a good investment as it lasts years or a lifetime…
Store cupboard basic where this week it is canned or bottled foods…It is always good to have some extra cans of fish, sweetcorn, and jars of vegetables or pickles and chutneys…for a rainy day.
It is important that we have an adequate amount of “Phosphorous ” in our diet…Phosphorus is an essential mineral usually combined with oxygen as a phosphate. Most phosphate in the body is found in our bones. But, phosphate-containing molecules, (phospholipids) are also important components of cell membranes and lipoprotein particles such as HDL (healthy cholesterol) and LDL (lousy cholesterol). A small amount of phosphate plays a role in many of our biochemical reactions including the production of our essential fuel ATP (adenosine triphosphate) and the formation of red blood cells…Deficiency is rare in a person with a normal diet. Alcoholics however are at risk as are people who are constantly taking antacids because of the aluminium content in some brands.
The far bigger risk with phosphorus is the amount we are consuming in processed foods such as soft drinks. A diet high in phosphorus may decrease the absorption of other minerals such as iron, copper and zinc…to read more please click the highlighted link below…
Much of the time it isn’t easy finding how healthy something really is…I hope this post will be helpful and make it a little easier …
