Welcome to Saturday Snippets this is one of my favourite posts of the week I learn much from my research and your comments so please keep them coming…
Today’s word prompt is “ Magic”…I know magic is sleight of hand but if done well it has always fascinated me…Magic(noun) is the power of apparently influencing the course of events by using mysterious or supernatural forces…”suddenly, as if by magic, the doors start to open”
Said to be the Father of Magic is Jean Eugene Robert-Houdin a French performer widely considered the father of modern magic. Adding the “i” followed tradition, as well as this, was a common way that magicians invoked the name of the famous 18th-century Italian conjurer Pinetti…although modern-day magicians don’t seem to adopt the “i” like Houdini did…Best known for his thrilling escape acts…more recently there has been “David Copperfield” and the “Gentleman Thief ” aka Apollo Robbins…plus David Blaine who like Houdini mystified audiences with a variety of world records and dangerous stunts like being buried alive in a water-filled tank, trapped in an icy prison for almost three days, and caught bullets fired from a .22 rifle in his teeth…none of which I can fathom or would ever attempt…
We have all also had “those”magic” moments where something exciting or wonderful just happens…mine very recently was when my mother who has dementia and doesn’t know who I am or anybody else is… suddenly said “I love you” to me…the floodgates opened…Yep, I cried …
Magic Forest…as a child so many of the stories I read had a magic forest or an enchanted forest where good and bad lived…In folklore and fantasy, an enchanted forest is a forest under, or containing enchantments. Such forests are described in the oldest folklore from regions where forests are common, and occur throughout the centuries to modern works of fantasy. The forest can feature as a place of threatening danger, or one of refuge, or a chance at adventure.
The Magic Fountain was built by Carles Buigas for the International Expo in 1929, on the site where Josep Puig i Cadafalch’s Four Columns had stood before being demolished in 1928. They were later rebuilt in 2010.
The spectacular Magic Fountain is very popular and is best known for its sound-and-light shows. Around 2,600 litres of water a second flow through the fountain’s three concentric pools, driven by a water-recycling system.
In recent years, traditional lighting has been progressively replaced with LED technology, due to its low consumption and the coloured lighting it offers. The Magic Fountain has also been using groundwater since 2010.
Did you know?
Magic Wormhole…Magic Wormhole is a secure protocol to send short messages and files/directories from one computer to another without using the sender’s or receiver’s details, such as IP addresses, hostnames, email addresses, phone numbers etc.
Making yourself invisible is easy providing you know the right words!

Magic Plants or air plants also called Cupids Bow, Nut Orchid or rock flowers grow arising from small rhizomes. The hairy leaves have saw-toothed edges…and are a lovely background for this beautiful flower.
This flor de peña (rock flower) was collected and documented in late summer blooming on embankments and along roadsides at intermediate elevations in Guatemala in the 1970s by Carol Rogers Chickering the author of Flowers Of Guatemala
Thank you for joining me today…I arrived safely home with not too much drama apart from losing my phone but #thaismile… I emailed them this morning and they phoned this afternoon to say they had my phone and are posting it back to me,, now that’s great service…

Magic is far more than what a magician does. It is a moment of a child’s discovery, the beauty of a sunset, and something happening that was meant to be. I think magic is there for those who see. Lovely, Carol!

I haven’t heard Magic Man in over five years. That was good to listen to again. One of my interests is card tricks. That’s not really magic either. Most of it involves math tricks and sleight of hand.

It does, Pete and neither of which I am very good at I’ll leave the card tricks to you…Like you Magic man was one I hadn’t listened to for a while …I hope you have a productive and happy week ahead 🙂 x

I’m listening to Puff, the Magic Dragon as I tap the keys.
Yes, magic hardly ever means pulling a rabbit out of a “fake” hat to me.I feel magic happens when I find just the right word in my writing, or meeting friends online I’d never meet otherwise.
Thanks for the inspiration here, Carol!

Some fascinating facts here, Carol, and well done for doing the piece without mentioning Paul Daniels. But no Tommy Cooper – how could you!
This seems a good possibility for a Tuesday Tunes post – I can already think of a couple 😊 x

I have jet lag so not thinking straight(thats my excuse) but even so Paul Daniels would have never been a choice but at least you have post out of “Magic” …Have a good weekend Clive 🙂 xx

I’m glad you got back home safely and the jet lag will soon wear off, I’m sure. Glad to hear that – the annoying little twerp was never my favourite.
It will probably be a couple of weeks before I do this: Tuesday’s post is already in the advance planning stage, and was prompted by another of these pieces, for which you will be duly credited. You have a good weekend too 😊 xx

The first thing I think of when I see ‘Magic’, is the film of the same name. It stars Anthony Hopkins as a deranged ventriloquist, alongside a completely gorgeous Ann-Margret, one of my biggest ever crushes.
Next, I think of one of my favourite songs, from the brilliant Lovin’Spoonful, sung by John Sebastian. It was released in 1965, when I was 13, and I still love it today.
Best wishes, Pete. x

Two excellent choices, Pete…nice one with Lovin Spoonful and a golden oldie I’ve always thought Anthony Hopkins is a fine actor…xx
