CarolCooks2 weekly roundup… 14th -20th August 2022-Monday Musings, Health, Morbid Obesity,Energy Crisis… How to reduce energy useage in your kitchen … and Saturday Snippets where “Circus” is my one word prompt.…

Welcome to my weekly roundup …August is here and still sunny for many… it seems the sun is still shining in the UK…which means BBQs galore are still on the menu or beautiful healthy salads…For some August brings the best bounty of the season—ripened tomatoes, ripe melon, sweet corn on the cob, zucchini, summer squash, eggplant, peaches, and strawberries to name but a few…Here we are getting heavy rain almost every day albeit warmish rain but everything is lovely and green and when the sun shines it’s beautiful and warm… the wet season is in full flow…

Last week was a busy week as usual starting with…

Monday Musings…

On Monday I added a video on how to open a tin can without a can opener it looked very feasible and when I find a small can without a ring pull the experiment will begin…I also had a little rant as I am sick and tired of reading and watching where people get nasty when someone’s opinion is different to theirs..there is far too much allowed here on social media and out in the big wide world…differences make for a more inclusive society plus our lives are richer for what we can learn about those differences they shouldn’t be a cause for conflict but a cause for celebration…Be Kind and thoughtful and embrace those differences…x

Monday Musings…15th August 2022…

Tuesday is chicken day…

Chicken is such a very versatile protein it has little fat(unless we add it)…a healthy alternative to red meat…  low in saturated fat, contains higher amounts of omega-6 fatty acids than other animal meats, and is high in protein and essential vitamins and minerals such as B6, B12, iron, zinc, and copper…

Today I am sharing… Pulled chicken and Coleslaw Rolls…

Hubbies slathered in his favourite Daddies sauce and mine as it comes…no sauce for me…the kid’s none for them either but we all enjoyed the pulled chicken and slaw rolls after we each added our own choice of extras…I hope you enjoy it too…

Wednesday I was back over at Smorgasbord Magazine where Sally kindly reshared my first A-Z…I am having so much fun rereading this A-Z  it also serves as a reminder that I need to make egg drop soup again…

Not only are Elephants Ears the leaves of the taro but thanks to Liz who remained me they are also a pastry a delicious fried pastry with cinnamon…Yum!

There was a call for a Global Action Plan on Obesity at World Health Assembly in May 2022. The World Obesity Atlas 2022, published by the World Obesity Federation, predicts that one billion people globally, including 1 in 5 women and 1 in 7 men, will be living with obesity by 2030…Those figures are truly mindblowing especially when you think of how many people among those numbers are living with lifestyle diseases potentially fatal diseases…

This is the reason why I help spread the word by posting Sally’s series on Morbid Obesity over at Smorgasbord Magazine.

Not only does Sally talk about what we can do but the causes and that’s what we need to know so we can address the problem…Sally has told her story and she has addressed her problems…So can you…Please click the highlighted link below to read the original post…

What are your favourite potatoes? White Potatoes, Jersey Royals, Sweet Potatoes…

The potato is the third most important food crop in the world after rice and wheat in terms of human consumption. More than a billion people worldwide eat potatoes, and global total crop production exceeds 300 million metric tons.

There are more than 4,000 varieties of native potatoes, mostly found in the Andes. They come in many sizes and shapes. There are also over 180 wild potato species. Though they are too bitter to eat, their important biodiversity includes natural resistance to pests, diseases, and climatic conditions.

The potato is as healthy as we make it as the butter, oil and fillings that make it unhealthy it’s how and what we cook it in and what we load it up with that is the problem or one of the problems today I talked about my pet hate “waste”…in this post, I give you the figures of potato waste and ask that you all try and have nil potato waste in your home by the end of September…if you do let me know and tell us how you did it …I will add you to a post and we can sing our praises and give ourselves a pat on the back…plus share our successes…

Saturday Snippets…come and join me today for all the fun of the circus ring…as my one-word prompt is “Circus”

For me and my sisters, a visit to the circus was an annual treat when “The Circus Come to Town”…back then it was exciting and no one gave any thought (that) I could tell for the animals we just saw the glitter and sawdust and oohed and ahhed at the tightrope walkers and laughed so much at the clowns…I can assure you no animals were harmed in the writing of this post and of course, my views are now those of many about animals and indeed a modern circus-like Cirque du Soleil without animals thrill audiences around the world…

Saturday Snippetts …21st August 2022…Today’s one-word prompt is “Circus”

Thank you very much for joining me today for my weekly roundup…as always I look forward to your comments and hope to see you tomorrow for Monday Musings…next week I will be making Chilli Jam I actually tried for the first time in the UK it was so nice that I decided to have a go and make some…I also have a lovely recipe for Orange and ginger cake that one of my granddaughters shared with me…time to bake and make jam…Have a lovely Sunday, have fun, laugh a lot and be kind …Love you all xx

Thanks for another informative week, Carol. We’re continuing to set our all-time record for expenses in a calendar year. We just had to purchase a new furnace and later this week we’re flying out to see our son and his fiancee.

Pulled chicken is always a crowd pleaser…. While we don’t always know the background of some most obesity is lifesyle related and while we shouldn’t shame people a solution is required before more of a strain is put on health services and that has to come from the medical profession I think …
