When you need to have a clear out of your freezer for this year’s goodies and add some spice to your Christmas dinner with this cross between a chutney, chilli jam and cranberry sauce. The amount of chilli you use will determine how hot the jam is it was a way to use up some cranberries…of course, I didn’t deseed my chillies as the last chilli jam I made didn’t quite pack as much punch as I would have liked…
Cranberry and Chilli Jam…
- 500g fresh or frozen cranberries
- finger-sized piece of ginger, peeled and roughly chopped
- 3-4 red chillies, roughly chopped (deseeded if you don’t like it too hot)
- 1 medium red onion roughly chopped.
- 200g golden caster sugar
- 100ml red wine vinegar
Let’s Cook!
Tip half the cranberries, the ginger, the red onion and the chillies into a food processor and whizz until very finely chopped. Scrape the mixture into a heavy-bottomed pan and add the remaining cranberries along with the sugar and vinegar, then bring everything to a boil, skimming off any scum that comes to the surface. Turn the heat down to a gentle simmer and keep cooking for about 20-30 mins, stirring occasionally.
Once the jam is starting to become sticky, continue cooking for a further 5 mins, stirring frequently so that the mixture doesn’t burn on the bottom of the pan. It should look like thick, bubbling lava. Cool slightly, then transfer to sterilised jars and leave to cool completely. Will keep for three months in a cool, dark place; keep in the fridge once opened.
Enjoy!
Thank you for joining me today for another Christmas recipe as always thank you for joining me at this busy time of year and as you know I always look forward to your comments x

This sounds really lovely Carol, how do you serve it? Is it more a meal accompaniment?
(Here in France we have a hard time finding cranberries… as it is whenever friends visit Costco in the Paris are, we get them to bring us some Ocean Spray dried cranberries… but fresh!? 😢)

Wow cranberry and chili jam! I sometimes see jams with chili but haven’t tried it by myself… how do you usually eat them, like the sauce for roasted meat? How about on toasts?🤔

I eat mine with a hardboiled egg for a snack, with meats, use it.as a glaze on fish, with cheese and crackers… You could melt cheese on toast and spread some on top 🥰😎

YES, to the cranberries. I made a sauce with tangerines just a few days ago. NO, (or, go easy) with the Chili Jam because of the spiciness. 😀

That’s the beauty of making it yourself you can go easy on the chillies, Marian…love the sound of tangerines with the cranberries 🙂

I like the sound of this, but I have to be very careful when eating chillies. Too hot, and that gives me a very bad stomach upset.
Best wishes, Pete. x
