Welcome to Monday Musings where my muse pinpoints anything exciting or unusual I have read, seen or experienced during the last week it could be anything that piques my interest…
On this day 27th February back in 1932, The neutron is discovered by English physicist James Chadwick who was later awarded the Nobel Prize for his discovery…and just in case like me you were wondering…A neutron is an uncharged atomic particle that has a mass nearly equal to that of the proton and is present in all known atomic nuclei except the hydrogen nucleus.
This week the natural Antibiotic is Olive Leaf Extract…
I know that olives and olive oil are good for our health but have never used Olive Leaf Extract or capsules…
The olive leaf was first used for medical purposes in Ancient Egypt, where it symbolized divine power. The olive leaf has been a powder, a herbal tea, capsules and an extract. Olive leaves contain many bioactive compounds with antioxidant, antiatherogenic, anti-inflammatory, hypocholesterolemic, hypoglycemic and anti-hypertensive properties. There is growing evidence of the power of olive leaves for medicinal purposes. It includes benefits to both the immune and cardiovascular systems. In the early 19th Century, crushed olive leaves in drinks helped to lower fevers. Later on, they started using it in tea form for malaria. In Morocco, olive leaf infusions help to stabilize blood sugar, and control diabetes.
The magic ingredient in olive leaf is oleuropein, a polyphenol that has antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal properties. While olive is a staple food in countries like Lebanon, Syria, Spain, Italy, France, and Morocco. Olive leaf is well-known for its medicinal effects outside of olive-eating traditional nations.
Research has shown the effectiveness of olive leaf extract against many foodborne bacteria. These include Salmonella, Listeria, E. coli and others. It was used to reduce bacteria present in organic leafy green vegetables, and shrimp.
It can also increase the quality and shelf-life of meat…Effects of Olive Leaf Extracts as Natural Preservative on Retailed Poultry Meat Quality
I never cease to be amazed at how something that we grow and use regularly can prove to be a benefit healthwise to us…Awesome!
The easiest way to get olive leaf extract or capsules is to buy them from a quality health store or recognised online source. Make sure it is organic for the best results. You can also buy olive-leaf tea bags. You should steep them in hot water for 10 minutes before drinking. Add organic honey for the best antimicrobial effects…and of course, check with your doctor or health professional before you take any supplement especially if you are on other medications…
National and International Days...
Yes I know there are so many days and many of them are absolutely stupid…However, apart from today being National Pokemon Day you know those fictional creatures that kids and adults alike love … Pokemon has also been a monumental success worldwide…some of these days raise awareness…
For me most importantly it’s also International Polar Bear Day…Life for polar bears is becoming more challenging year by year, with climate change reducing their habitat from under their feet. Polar Bear Day is about raising awareness of this tragic issue, so why not donate to their cause or see what you can do to reduce your carbon footprint…Here’s how without leaving home…
Back to the polar bear…head over to the fact site and see just how much you know about the polar bear…are polar bears really white? Beneath all that thick fur, polar bears have jet-black skin. The polar bear’s fur is also translucent, and only appears white because it reflects visible light…head over to the link below to read more facts and it may induce you to reduce your carbon footprint just a little bit…

Another interesting Musings Carol… and Olive Leaf is another example of the miracles of nature. Crazy that these natural remedies are treated with such disrespect from the medical profession.. I agree care needs to be taken with natural remedies as some can be less beneficial for some people but on the whole, the statistics say more people are killed each year through misdiagnosis and misprescription than have ever been killed by natural medicines.♥

That’s an eye-opener, Sally I didn’t realise that..I know my daughter in law she’s a nurse and said that so many of her patients(my age) are ditching prescribed medications and doing their own thing by researching etc and taking natural supplements…That says a lot about the medical profession and its training…I think a whole rethink is required as instead of doling out medications and I know in some cases they are necessary but doctors should be looking at lifestyles…I am now completely off my BP tablets and my BP is somewhat below the national average of 120/80..I have spoken to a Uk doctor and they say that mines fine and congratulated me on what I am doing Hugs xx

That’s fantastic Carol and I know how much work goes in to maintaining that healthy level.. and I am not surprised that more of the older generation are turning to alternative medicines. Prescribed medications are needed for certain conditions but with an estimated 75% of patients suffering from lifestyle related illness, it seems it is the cause not the symptoms we should be treating.. ♥

Absolutely I agree, Sally and it needs to change but then we have the big pharmaceutical industry who would not agree xx

Polar Bears are very important, and in peril. I used to subscibe to the WWF Polar Bear campaign for years, until I found out that the CEO of the organisation gets a salary of £750,000 a year. Now THAT is disgraceful!
Best wishes, Pete. x

That is why I don’t subscribe to any big charities, Pete I only give to small local ones/hospices where I can see what they spend the money on x
