Monday Musings…6th March 2023…a message in a bottle…the benefits of the clove…Ghost!

Welcome to Monday Musings where my muse pinpoints anything exciting or unusual I have read, seen or experienced during the last week it could be anything that piques my interest…

Just imagine you are walking along a beach and spy an interesting old bottle that you think may look good on a shelf in your home …Beachcombers around the world find lots of pebbles, bits of flotsam, shells and bottles however this bottle found by a couple walking along the beach near Wedge Island in WA discovered a bottle with a message inside…

This wasn’t just any old bottle and on this day 6th of March 2018 the find was confirmed by experts at the German Naval Observatory. The previous record for the oldest message in a bottle was 108 years…

Natural Antibiotic this week is…The Clove…

One of my favourite spices the clove is used in kitchens around the world however, it has also been scientifically proven health and wellness benefits…both my grandma and my mother swore by clove oil as a remedy for toothache…just make sure you don’t get it on your tongue as that too will go numb-smile-

Growing as flower buds on the tree, cloves are a multipurpose cooking spice used to add a zing to numerous dishes and beverages…the taste is very distinctive I use it when I cook apples, in my spice mixes, and in my Sangria…This evergreen tree flourishes in warm climes and grows year-round in tropical climates…

The clove tree has been used for thousands of years in folk medicine preparing remedies out of various parts of the plant including flower buds (cloves), stems and leaves.

Ancient Indian and Chinese medicines used cloves to treat various health conditions including toothaches, infections, indigestion, and muscle and joint pain. The popularity of cloves has continued to grow with each generation it was also used as a love potion by the Ancient Persians…upon reading about the health benefits of cloves and clove oil I have been amazed at the research that has been done and continues to be done it is certainly an amazing little bud if you want to read more then please click the highlighted link…Are you a fan of clove oil and cloves what do you use it for?

Music…one for the ladies…Tissues supplied-

Thank you for joining me today as always I look forward to your comments and appreciate your shares…I hope to see you in my “Green Kitchen ” on Wednesday xx

-sniffle- Ahem. A few drops of clove oil added to water can also be used to get rid of black mould. The clove oil keeps the mould away for a long time too.

Yes, of course. Because of the humidity, right? Melbourne gets a few high humidity days but nothing like the sub-tropics. I don’t know how you live with it all the time. 😦

I have always fantasized about finding a note in a bottle. I’m glad this is still happening. Thank you for the song from Ghost. I loved it back in the 60’s. What a great movie and song!

In Indonesia, cloves are a flower categorized in the spice variety. It can be used as a spice and tobacco mixture, in addition to being distilled for its oil. I myself prefer to include cloves in a concoction consisting of ginger and other spices.

I had to look up that 132 year old message in a bottle, Carol. Too bad it wasn’t something romantic. But what fun. And I didn’t know cloves grew on trees, (I don’t think I ever thought about how they grew). Lol. I use cloves a lot. Great post.

I find the message in a bottle thing fascinating. The travels one bottle could tell. (Of course, I have to reference the song by The Police.)

Haha..I also thought of that but didn’t… thank you for the link. Pete…I also find it fascinating especially the time some take to be discovered… I wonder if anyone has put a tracker in a bottle to chart the journey?

Nothing exciting-smile- apparently they were conducting a 69-year experiment that required them to toss thousands of bottles overboard to investigate global ocean currents. Each message contained the coordinates of where the ship was when the bottle was deployed, along with the date and name of the ship…

But what an opener for a book. Imagine it. A young woman vacationing at her aunt’s house. During summer vacation between the end of high school and the beginning of college and what does she discover? A message in a bottle. Who wrote it? Where will the message lead?

        Hi, everyone.
Now I’ve gone and started something. Well, I am writing a paranormal romance and am just starting work on the second while the first is in process with my publishers, so I’ll try and weave this in somewhere as there is a young girl and a beach in the book.
        Interesting.

Good morning Carol and all. I hope you’re doing super duper well on this glorious full Moon Day.
I wanted to ask if you’ve ever heard of using clove oil for an ear infection?
A friend of mine, told me that someone advised she could put a dab into her dog’s ears on the onset of an ear infection and it would help treat it.
I hesitate to do this as I have accidentally blistered my gums before and don’t want to risk blistering Blue’s ears.
Lab/retriever crosses are notorious for getting yeast ear infections and I’m looking for something to help ward them off.
I use Clove and wish I could grow it. I’m assuming because it likes tropical climes it wouldn’t grow here. Our winters can be rather frosty.
    Thanks for the lovely post.

Yes it would, Pete sent one with a date but no response(yet) it does make you think how a bottle can stay undiscovered for years though probably covered with sand until it gets eroded away and taken by the sea to another place…x

We always had Tincture of Cloves in the house for pain relief of toothache, and my mum used to put some cloves in her apple pies.

When I was 12, we were on holiday on the west coast of Scotland, staying at Fort William. I found a message in a Coca-Cola bottle on Ganavan Sands, the beach near Oban. It had an address in Maine, in the USA, and the names of a brother and sister. On the paper it said, ‘Write to us if you find this’. The bottle was sealed with what looked like candle wax, and my dad dug it out with a screwdriver to release the paper. Unfortunately, it had no date on it.
I wrote back using an Air Mail letter, telling them where it was found, and my name and address in London. Sadly, I never got a reply.

    Best wishes, Pete. x

A few years later, (I was 15) I threw a bottle into the sea from a beach in Normandy, France. I dated the message inside and put my name and address. No reply yet… 🙂 x
