Thursday Thoughts…30th March 2023…History of the Tree Huggers, Another senseless shooting in Nashville and “The Prayer”

Welcome to Thursday Thoughts…

I love trees truly I love nothing better than wandering through woods and forests, especially Bluebell woods…

Tree Hugger to me seems to have become in some ways a derogatory term today…However, if you go back centuries this video reveals the mystery behind the phrase “Tree Hugger”

The world watches with horror as once again children are attacked and killed whilst at school..instead of me ranting and raving about the state of the world…A world where many things that I classed as the norm are being turned on its head and the media and others are telling me it’s not…However, I will just leave you with the link to Alethea’s post it is interesting and heartbreaking as are the comments…

After history and another tragedy where young lives were cut short, I introduce you to two beautiful voices…singing “The Prayer”

I think the world needs some prayers…

Thank you for joining me today as always I look forward to your comments and appreciate any shares x

I think one of the main things at fault with the shootings in schools (and other violence) is the press. They fan the fire and give other troubled kids ideas. Also, families are struggling and sometimes dysfunctional. If kids can’t get those important emotional and social connections, that’s a problem. As a teacher, I feel responsible for instilling children with ‘the right stuff’. Thank you for the lovely video of Bocelli and Dion!

A thoughtful post, Carol. I’m a proud tree-hugger but had no idea of the origin of the term. Thanks for sharing that. And for sharing Alethea’s post and the beautiful song The Prayer. It’s been another sad week in the US as our kids’ lives take second place to guns once again.

Thank you, Diana, and yes it’s become something of the norm for me and I’m sure many others believe our children should be safe in schools. I read one politician advocated for metal detectors at school entrances which is not a bad idea because it seems to me that the pro-gun lobby there believes assault weapons are ok for all and sundry to buy. My American cousins use and keep guns securely locked up but for hunting seasons they don’t use assault weapons…maybe the powers that be should share the devasting effects on the human body especially as a child’s body is smaller maybe then they will have a rethink I’m not saying ban all guns but assault rifles have no place in the normal population…rant over, sorry xx

Hi Carol, unfortunately, ‘tree huggers’ can be wrong about the natural environment because they don’t understand it. The school shooting was appalling. I think the USA must be a dreadful place to live right now. Thank you for the song. I hope the lows in your week aren’t related to any of your children.

Yes, they can and that is the downside unfortunately blinding the extremists to the realities…I agree it is a scary place and again there seems to be this barrier from those who can about the realities of assault rifles being freely purchased. No thank you for asking Robbie… Lauren’s scan was clear it’s the scar tissue affecting the nerve endings which is causing her pain and inflammation.. those pesky side effects-sigh-it was just niggly bits and pieces I think we all get those weeks-smile- but thank you, again Robbie I hope all is well in your world 🙂 xx

Hi Carol, my weird comment on the Lion Scream post was actually about this tree hugging thing. Jetpack only shows the response and not my comment – a bit if a limitation 🫣. I am really glad that Lauren’s scan is clear. What a great thing 😊.

I read this week about trees being chopped down to make way for housing estates and other recreational purposes in the UK by councils and the protests going on. To take a tree down yourself on your own land requires permission from the council in most cases so it seems they don’t feel they need to hold the same consult with their rate payers! I went over to read Alethea’s excellent post and agree wholeheartedly… and The Prayer is beautiful. ♥

Yes, it does seem there is one rule for some and not others…Alethea’s post was certainly an eye-opener and like you, Sally I thought it was worth a share as I agree wholeheartedly also…”The Prayer was very apt at that time it is a beautiful song and sung most beautifully Hugs xx

You are most welcome, Alethea…I read a post yesterday that BeetleyPete shared and it showed the impact on the body of what these high-powered assault rifles do because it is so powerful just what happens when it impacts the human body law enforcers and governments don’t show these images but the brave parents of 6-year-old Noah have agreed as they do not wish this to happen to another child and although its horrific everyone should know or it won’t stop we can not decline to see because it offends us or tugs at our heartstrings it is the REALITY AND SHOCKING but its also someones else’s child…one day it could god forbid be ours…x

Sadly I have to agree, John but where will it end?… I doubt I will be here in 20yrs time but it doesn’t bode well for the future of mankind when assault rifles can freely be purchased…

I read the link, and agree with the sentiments. At one time, war novels and films were supposed to show the futility of war, and put people off the very idea of conflict. (All Quiet On The Western Front, (1930 film), and The Red Badge of Courage (1951 film). But then they started to show ‘heroism’ instead, and by the 1970s, they were definitely glorifying violence.
There were, and are still, films being made to show the horrors of war with no ‘glory’, but you have to search for them. This is one of those.

Absolutely, Pete, the narrative has changed and not for the better violence and the more extreme is as you say being glorified while most sane people are horrified. Thank you for the link xx

My friends and I are going to see a film called The Journey, starring Andrea Bocelli along with other singers in celebration of the Easter season. Thanks for spreading the good, Carol!
