Climate Change and Health …my last post…

This year we have seen wildfires in Australia, USA, parts of the Arctic, the Amazon and central Asia have also experienced unusually severe blazes.

We are being encouraged to use electric cars, buy local to cut our carbon footprint, practise circular recycling, cook from scratch and use nose to tail eating to cut waste…Tesco in the UK is championing cutting waste…the list goes on…Frankly, I am doing my best and I am still confronted with stark headlines…telling me to do more!

On top of this, we haveCovid-19, the deaths, the effect on the economies of the world which no doubt will hit us in our pockets at some point, when will it stop?…

I am currently reading Salt, Sugar and Fat and I am astounded at the amount of money being spent by big corporations on research and advertising all aimed at selling their products …it is a vast machine which monitors our shopping habits, which uses scans to see how our brains light up to certain products so that they can get the science right and produce a product which when it hits our taste buds and the info travels to our brains it hits what they call our bliss point so we eat more…we get addicted…our children get addicted…obesity figures grow year on year, the teeth of the nation suffer more decay, diabetes type 2 is on the increase…allergies are on the rise, health conditions which can be directly contributed to the number of chemicals we consume are on the rise and wouldn’t exist more than likely if it wasn’t for the world’s consumption of too much sugar, fat and salt by eating processed foods.

Climate Change…like you and you and you… I do my very best…However, it isn’t just down to me or you…New research shows that around a fifth of all carbon emissions in recent years has come from the assets and suppliers of multinational corporations – and the flow of money indicates that pollution is effectively being outsourced from the developed to the developing world.

Getting this information on record could help to spur more radical climate action from private business, the researchers say – and stop the trend for outsourcing emissions. We all live on the same planet, after all.

Between reading sugar, Salt and Fat and the fact that emissions are being outsourced and not attributed to the country of origin and also not being recorded for us to see…Yes us as it affects us all and we can keep doing what we are doing and to what aim? When we are being assaulted, monitored and targeted from all sides by huge multinational corporations…and not forgetting the block editor…x

That’s all from me…I will be concentrating on my writing and my recipes…cooking which I love and of course Saturday Snippets…xxx

I love shopping at the local markets, finding fresh, natural ingredients, new strange fruits and vegetable ones I have never seen or cooked with. I am generally the only European person and attract much attention and I love to try what I am offered and when I smile and say Aroy or Saab as it is here in the north I am met with much smiling.

Some of my recipes may not be in line with traditional ingredients and methods of cooking but are recipes I know and have become to love and maybe if you dare to try you will too. You will always get more than just a recipe from me as I love to research and find out what other properties the ingredients I use contain to improve our health and wellbeing.

Recycling and Climate Change…27th April 2020…and Covid-19…

Hello and welcome to this weeks edition of recycling and climate change…also some information on Covid-19 as this is also affecting climate change/recycling.

The world we live in has changed much in these first months of the year some things for the better and sadly we have lost many, many people to this terrible virus…Lots of shops and leisure facilities, hairdressing salons, schools, colleges have been closed…food stores have remained open but with restrictions in place..there are lots of rumblings of when are these restrictions going to be lifted…

Who can answer that and if they do and give a timeline it could be that the virus and its journey around the world could change that in an instant…If lockdowns are lifted too soon we could have a second wave and that could be more virulent than the first…Who knows? I don’t and in all honesty, I don’t wish to play Russian Roulette with my life or my family and friends lives or it may be someone I don’t even know who I infect …

My point? Yes, it has caused me to worry and inconvenienced us and disrupted my/our normal life…But I am alive…

Here we are now in our 25th day with no new cases…are things being lifted…internal flights are to be allowed to recommence…However…There will be social distancing marked out on the plane and no beverages or food will be offered…

air Asia new PPE

The cost has increased and unless I was sure as to what I would have to do on arrival…I will be taking no flights …I would imagine unless anyone has to travel urgently that will be all the passengers we will see using the flights.

Thailand is being very cautious and I for one am pleased about that…

It is interesting to see the facts and figures on food waste and from what I am reading although many people are worried about how to feed their families and many more people are visiting food banks it seems people are using their larders and ignoring sell-by dates. Cooking more from scratch and being more mindful of portion control thus wasting less. All this is positive and I hope that many more after the lockdowns are over will still be mindful…Wouldn’t that be great?

But what about the food which cannot be sold or picked…Second Servings is tackling this…

Here in Thailand, we are seeing the return of rare leatherback sea turtles who have built the largest number of nests in two decades on beaches in Phuket and Phang Nga which because they are deserted due to the drop in tourists numbers because of the coronavirus pandemic…

The 11 turtle nests authorities have found since last November were the highest number in 20 years, said Kongkiat Kittiwatanawong, the director of the Phuket Marine Biological Center.

“This is a very good sign for us because many areas for spawning have been destroyed by humans,” he told Reuters. No such nests had been found for the previous five years.

Having been a part of releasing baby turtles into the sea when I lived in Phuket I think this is brilliant news…

I know the lockdown has brought out the creative side of many more…I came across this FB page and it has many great ideas for kids and adults…

For years, dogs have been helping to keep humans safe by sniffing out narcotics, improvised explosive devices, pests, natural disasters, cancer, Parkinson’s disease, and now—yes, you guessed it—the novel coronavirus.

A medical charity in England that has successfully trained dogs to detect malaria is now attempting to train man’s best friend to identify the smell of COVID-19.

The charity, called Medical Detection Dogs, is partnering with the Tropical Medicine and Hygiene School in London along with Durham University to begin trialling dogs for the job. Dr Claire Guest, a behavioural psychologist and principal member of the charity told CTV News that there is “absolutely no reason why a dog can’t detect the virus.”

As many of you know it was Earth Day last week these are the highlights…

Although we are on lockdown recycling is still important…

I have a long memory ask my other half…haha…I hope you all do after this is over…

My hope for the future is a cleaner world… I do want to see communities, and caring for your neighbour becoming the new norm…WORKING TOGETHER INSTEAD OF WORKING AGAINST EACH OTHER…

Thank you for reading be well and stay safe xxx

Plastic, Recycling, Global Warming…Extinction Revolution….

It takes a lot for the British public to feel they have to make their voices heard and is not an everyday occurrence… I am seeing this again in the actions of the Extinction Rebellion the British public have had enough of successive governments inaction and are rebelling and making their voices heard…These are ordinary people, not radicals…Mum’s, Dad’s, grandparents, young people who are all concerned about the beautiful world we live in and the abuse which is allowed to rumble on unchecked…How health and wildlife are suffering and dying…But are we as the public getting all the facts…Not scaremongering facts backed up by science…

Which means, however, something is nagging at me… I never take something on face value…I do my research it is just me I like to know…I like proven facts which have been checked and presented to me by a man/women who know…

Also what scares me is from every TV, social media site, news programmes I am being TOLD there is a problem and Climate Change needs to be addressed and we see the governments as not actioning things speedily enough sometimes it is circumstances and logistics it really is… some things take time…Cannot happen overnight…

Also having a knee jerk response is not always the correct action to take…Things this important need to be thought through…Properly…

What do I know and what should we all know as throughout history there have always been changes in the climate and there has always been a cause…

The Ozone Layer, Global Cooling, Population Explosion and now Global Warming…

Extinction Revolution…Want YOU to get arrested…

What are your thoughts? Are you prepared to be arrested? What happens if I am arrested? Unless other factors come into play you would normally not receive a criminal record for a civil offence…However, all the facts need to come into this so it could come down to individual cases… YOU COULD THEN HAVE A CRIMINAL RECORD…

For a young person...That could have a disastrous impact on future job applications…Many employers would not employ you if they thought you were going to cause disruption in the workplace with a criminal record for public disorder offences.

A Peaceful protest is ok…But a protest where once you have attached your self to something and you cannot change your mind…You will be arrested…I would have to be very sure of all my facts before I put myself in that position and it is not because I don’t think that we need to make changes and it is not because I don’t recycle and grow my own but do we have to prove our absolute conviction for something by being arrested?…

Is Global Warming as bad as we are being told? Just a question I am asking?

To make up my mind I need to know that the person or persons giving me the answers as I am not a scientist is giving me proven facts…

Scientists have numerous roles in society, all of which involve exercising curiosity in order to ask questions and seek answers about the universe. This involves using the scientific method to construct a testable question, make a prediction, perform tests and interpret the resulting data… Sometimes these tests can take years and if the result after this time is not proven then that theory is disproved…It happens…Not all theories work or can be proven to be correct…So a scientist comes up with another theory and the tests begin again…

This was the case with Fats…When a scientist stated that fats were not as harmful as previously thought…Now this theory had been used as a public HEALTH guideline…Facts when if do a bit of research has been known for years so why have changes to health guidelines taken so long? Much is down to politicians and the bits they choose to use…

Science is Science and Politicians are politicians…Politicians should not be choosing which bits of the science they should be using and scientists need to stand up and be counted…If their findings are being either diluted or misrepresented.

How do WE educate ourselves as time and time again over the years it has been proven that we have been deliberately lied to and mislead by politicians, manufacturers and public bodies, charities for their own gain…

We need to educate ourselves …We need to have healthy scepticism…We need to know if Climate Change is really as bad as we are led to believe… All these think tanks and UN bodies which we all take as the Climate Bible is debatable at the very least …

This video is a long one but it raised and confirmed many points for me…To say I WAS SHOCKED would not be true as I am used to finding out that we the public have been deceived yet again…What still shocks me is that so many still do not do their own research….

So much so that I am questioning the Extinction Revolution …If I could be sure that every person who was demonstrating had conducted their own research and knew exactly who the organisers were and whether or not they were affiliated or working for any other organisations I would be happier…

This video by Windows of the World is interesting as it mentions points which investigative journalist Donna Laframboise raised in the video above and had concerns about and this is much more recent…

When I read about fiddling with temperatures…I get scared…Because I don’t know who to believe …I don’t know what is the truth… I am really worried as to why there is so much disparity…I know there is natural climate change …It seems that in some places changes are quite drastic BUT is it the norm over the years and centuries …How much of this can be laid at man’s door?

Do you think that human generation of CO2 emissions significantly contribute to what we are seeing?

But there are so many assumptions being made and much of the information we are being fed is flawed…

I just don’t know any more…Do you?

Waste Not! Want Not!…Week 22…Hydrating shampoo bar and pollutants…

Another week where Climate Change is high on the agenda and for the brits I suppose it makes a welcome change from Brexit…

It was also heartening to see how many people are coming out to say hey…We feel strongly about this…We want action…

Today in my FB news feed was an article published by The Independent Newspaper  stating

MPs make history by passing Commons motion to declare ‘environment and climate change emergency’

1,457 EDMs were tabled by MPs during the 2015-16 parliamentary session. Data on EDMs is given in the House of Commons Sessional Returns under ‘notices of motions for an early day’.

My question is how many get any further than that or get passed?

It seems to be around 4% and it is worrying that the respected House of Commons library could not find any examples of a national or parliamentary declaration of a “climate emergency”

I do hope that after everyone’s hard work that the 100 MP’s signatures required to give this motion a chance happens.

I have read much before writing this post including some info I found through DuckDuckGo where searches throw up information which Google doesn’t …No surprises there…I am currently reading through a pdf on climate change and it is very interesting in that even scientists cannot agree as to the urgency or severity of the risk to life on Earth…

Many of their findings are based on info from NASA and interestingly figures on what plants need to grow and survive and what man needs to survive which are two different things…

Planet Earth

Photo on Visualhunt

Nature itself has gone through changes over many millions of years and man and nature have all adjusted and survived maybe not in exactly the same form but have evolved with the climate changes…

Most scientists agree that to some level(s) mans impact on greenhouse gases has interrupted the natural cycles of the Earth thus accelerating the natural change process.

What they don’t agree on is the impact on man and nature…

The Science says we need to be vigilant to keep our land, air and waters free of real pollution, particulates, heavy metals, pathogens, but carbon dioxide (CO2) is not one of these pollutants. Carbon is the stuff of life. Our bodies are made of carbon.
Every day a normal human exhales around 1 kg of CO2 — the simplest most chemically stable molecule of carbon in the earth’s atmosphere.

There are many critics and nasty comments about young Greta Thunberg but one of her statements when reading her speech on the haters was that she was talking to some scientists to ensure that the statements she made were true…

To me, Climate change is a science based on many factors based on research…

My question is are all these articles we see in the news, om social media is it Joe Public being fed what governments want us to know,. Is it a person or organisation who is reading and telling us what they think we want to know or telling us what their thoughts are but are those thoughts based on proven facts and science or is it just an individuals perception?

I am not a scientist or educated with lots of letters after my name unless a banking degree counts but I am also hopefully not blindly led and don’t believe everything I read…I also do check links and facts and lately by means other than Google as they, as we know, tend to show us what they think we want basing it on past searches.

I have also been wary of government officials who are given a position as head of a department when they have no expertise in that particular field…It happens…

I believe the real issues are pollution, but what constitutes pollution?

  • What are the different types of Pollution? Environmental Pollution occurs in different forms; air, water, soil, radioactive, noise, heat/ thermal and light. …
  • Air Pollution. …
  • Water Pollution. …
  • Soil pollution. …
  • Noise pollution. …
  • Radioactive pollution. …
  • Light pollution.

This is just one report on how reports can be misleading…The China Water Risk…

What are your thoughts…I would love to know do you think Climate change is a risk or just overhyped? And why?

What is not a pollutant?

Myth: CO2 is a pollutant.

Fact: Totally false. We challenge you to prove otherwise. CO2 is in our every breath, in the carbonated sodas and waters that we drink and in the dry ice that helps us keep our food cold and safe. We breathe in 400 parts per million and then exhale 40,000 parts per million with no ill effects.

To read more…

Lastly, I do believe we have a problem and we must address pollution or it will upset the natural cycle of the world but we also really need to do our own research as much of what is in the media is half-truths at best…We do need to look at the chemical pollution of our foods and health products and plastic is a huge, huge issue and these need to be addressed…

Victoria Zigler my intrepid reporter sent me these…Details of a hydrating shampoo bar something I haven’t tried yet but I will as anything which stops chemicals going in the water system is good…This shampoo bar is 100% natural and artisanal. Composed of aloe vera, natural glycerin and castor oil, it gently cleanses the hair and body, leaving the hair fibre hydrated* and full of vitality.

NO parabens, silicones and SLS. 100% vegan.

Thank you, Tori…x

The latest on Monsanto...US government declares Roundup is not dangerous to humans despite two landmark cases that found glyphosate caused cancer.

roundup weedkiller on shelves

It seems despite these cases, Costco removing Roundup from their shelves and many other countries, France has a total ban and many others bans with provisos…

The only course of action to me seems that the consumer needs to speak and hit where it hurts and stop buying anything which has connections to Monsanto…

What are your thoughts?

Thank you for reading and commenting on these posts …There are definitely some battles going on coupled with many untruths…xxx
