Who can you trust??

How reliable is the information that you read online? Particularly if it is about your health or the health of a loved one?

It is a veritable minefield out there and so many sites write anything to either sell their product or get your e-mail address so they can sell you their product or so they can flood your inbox with what they think you want to hear and sell you that information.

If you are looking for something and are faced with page after page of information then firstly remember you can PAY to be at the top of a search engine so just because they are top and not on page 105 doesn’t mean that what they are saying is true.

It is very easy to be taken in when you dearly want a “cure” or ” remedy ” but please it is not nice to have your hopes dashed when the product doesn’t work or causes a bad reaction.

If you’re visiting a health website for the first time, these 5 quick questions can help you decide whether the site is a helpful resource.

Who?      Who runs this website? Can you trust them?

What?     What does the site say? Do its claims seem too good to be true?

When?    When was the information posted or reviewed? Is it up-to-date?

Where?   Did the information come from? Is it based on scientific research?

Why?      Does the site exist? Is it selling something?

Don’t rely completely on online resources if you are considering alternative methods of treatment. Talk to your health practitioner they often know of tried and tested alternatives or an alternative that runs alongside conventional treatments.

As I stated in a previous post ” one size doesn’t fit all” What works for your friend’s friend may NOT work for you.

If It is a cure for cancer the Organisations like the Macmillan organisation would be a good starting point for accurate information.

Marie Curie is another well-known organisation

These large organisations have the funds and the knowledge and would likely know or have heard about any conventional cures or natural cures.

Health food so much info on the market ..where to go? Who to talk to? Is what you ARE reading on Social media True or false? As a general rule if the website it leads you too ends in .gov or .edu they are a trusted source although e-mails received ending in edu may not always be. It is definitely a minefield out there.

I promise you that when I am giving you facts about fruit and food then I double-check the information or have used it myself.

I even check an e-mail from my bank before I open it that is how much I distrust anything sent to me or when I read an article I check either on the news or a publication that I know is always up to date. As the date is important as well, just because it has been posted now doesn’t mean that the news is current…always question and look that little bit further….It is your health and your families at risk so trust your gut and do the basic checks.

The internet is a wonderful source of information it is also a dark source of incorrect information.

Please be one of the growing number of consumers who are aware, who are not being taken in by so-called celebrity endorsements of which there are so many. Be one of the ones who makes a decision on your family’s health and the food they eat by being informed and making that decision yourself.

Be happy and confident that you have done your best and made the best information on your own findings and there are some wonderful blogs and websites who give out fully researched information.

And have fun when you are researching …I know I have …I have discovered some wonderful fruits and vegetables with so many medical benefits.

Thank you for reading this I was prompted by two articles I saw online today and had been shared by someone I knew and were blatant untruths and it took me all of 10 seconds to suss them out…..

Remind yourself that it’s ok not to be perfect.

Oh well I don’t need reminding never have, never will ,actually don’t want to be perfect. Anyone who thinks they are doesn’t belong in my world or anyones really, should they? If you are so perfect it’s the same really as being at the top only one way to go and that’s DOWN.

So me I’d rather be a little less than and then I can go up or if you are really rock bottom then it’s a given you really can only go onwards and upwards….so where would you rather sit?

This week has been a bad week really and for some just awful in fact words cannot express just how awful…I do not want to dwell on this not because I don’t feel sorrow, pain and all those others feelings and I do.

But because I will not feed the monsters.SAM_5501

Sitting at my desk the other day (The above is the view from my desk) my grand son came in ” Nannie , Nannie did you know that in America they have one day, well 12 hours when they can do anything..they can steal, kill anything they want and they will not get into trouble.”

“That’s not true, Aston”

“Yes it is I read it”

” No, that would never happen”

He was insistent! So I asked my friend ” Mr Google” and it’s a film set in 2022.

This turned into an ideal opportunity for me to explain because he was so insistent that he had read it. Showing black and white that it was and also explaining that it was very unlikely to become fact.

Explaing to him that if a friend came up to him and told him this and persuaded him it was true and then you persuaded another friend and  this is how people are brain washed into believing an untruth and also doing something they never would .

He had read it but not read it properly or had read a piece of script from the film and believed it to be true. We had a very good chat on how someone who was clever, articulate could influence a young person into doing something that would normally be against his principles and that he would know  was wrong by made it easy for me as I saw the opportunity as he was so very insistent that he was correct, to initiate this chat and it was very timely given what is in  the news lately, about young impressionable people who are being indoctrinated by very clever people into believing whatever they want them to and that is scary.

I know that a lot of young people don’t talk to their elders as it’s not cool, but I try really hard to pick up on little pointers both good and bad to help illustrate my point and what I think is the right way and hopefully he will talk about things to his old nan for some time to come as it must be every parents and grand parents biggest nightmare that their children will be influenced by something or someone who is less than desirable. Scary world isn’t it especially given the freedom of information over the internet now.

Yes you can use parental controls but I believe it’s better to let them see within limits and guidelines just what is going on in that big scary world out there. Because we won’t always be there to guide and nurture so we need to take responsibility so that they know right from wrong and not be a sheep.

I always used to say to my kids ” don’t ever come and tell me that you did something because someone told you too. Do it because  you want to and have the courage of your convictions.”

And it’s true. Anyway I have preached enough , the good part of my week has been I have pickled more onions, made Mango Chutney and at this moment in time have pastry chilling because I am making Quiche and dinner tonight is  Jacket Potatoes, Quiche and salad..well I am having just the Quiche and salad without the jacket.

A change for me as I always eat Thai Food but haven’t had Quiche for eons so am going to enjoy!

With a nice chilled white it will be lovely.

No recipes this week because I just haven’t but there will be in my next blog.

Love you all and if any of you had or lost loved ones in any atrocities this week then may God give you peace and I am so sorry for your losses.

Until next time love you all xxx.

To eat you add a little of each of those finely chopped delicious morsels in the Betel leaf add some tamarind sauce and pop it in your mouth…A delicious snack… Miang Kham.

Wooh well, my sneezes are defo not like this…..

It was a high-pitched sneeze, a most delicate sternutation, the merest zephyr tangled in a pretty, powdered, finger-tip of a nose.
— Eric Linklater, Magnus Merriman, 1934

Mine is so forceful that it has been known for my teeth to fly across the  room……no sniggering…. with a nose like a ski jump, square on the end…..always wanted a little button nose………it’s never gonna be a dainty sneeze now is it?

Excited or what grand kiddies on the way…

Life doesn’t just happen, it requires our participation.

My week has been a mixed bag and  I have got quite engrossed in  ” The Commons” and realised I haven’t blogged since 10th Jan…normally my brain is buzzing and I am away…and not with the fairies…haha.

I normally don’t comment on world affairs…but I have been truly saddened and continue to be so at the world and current events …does anyone not learn? why do some make excuses…are we all not in charge of our own destiny? and yes I know about people who are not as well-educated, had a bad or impoverished upbringing but is that really a reason for some actions that have been taken…

Malala Yousafzai the youngest ever winner of the Nobel Prize laureate has been shot and nearly killed… has that dampened her quest for peace and education in her country…NO actually…….

Would I have given up under those circumstances…would you take that same stand she has  …I don’t know……but I do know that we have to be accountable……true to ourselves and I am truly sad and have listened to a lot of the debates etc….can a person just not be truly evil?…….

I know 1st hand how one person’s life was lived under such a regime where every step, phone call, letter was monitored, recorded…. the fear that if you didn’t conform then not only yourself but your family would suffer……it was endless……did they become what a lot of their fellow countrymen did …No!…

They worked hard and tried to be a good person. So although I acknowledge that fear and terror is a large contributing factor, I struggle to understand why well-educated people seem to see some sort of …. don’t know…is it the quest to be infamous?..the glory they perceived they will receive……either here or in the afterlife……

I know politics must play a huge role…and that I don’t want to understand…accept to ask why? Why do people continue to suffer and be killed..children, mothers, fathers it must stop…..will it? No…

I don’t believe it will …from the inception of our lovely world there has been killings in the name of Politics or Religion and all faiths and party’s have or are guilty of this through the ages……

It is such a shame that in the aftermath of all this that some inflammative articles are in print. Iyad Madani, Former Culture Minister for Saudi Arabia and now head of Jeddah based OIC has a valid point when he says ” Freedom of speech must not become a hate speech and must not offend others.

No sane person, irrespective of doctrine, religion or faith accepts his beliefs being ridiculed.” And now churches are being torched around the world and although I have every sympathy for the victims of some of these abhorrent acts of violence, kidnapping’s, hostage taking….. there must be better ways of dealing with these atrocities……..

My mum always taught me never to argue about Politics or Religion as there would never be a winner and I think she is correct…… but it still saddens me …….

Normal blogging service will resume with my next blog…….   I just had to say something……XX
