CarolCooks2…Weekly roundup…Recycling, Recipes, Banana Fertiliser and so much more…

Where is the time going? My regular readers know the drill…A comfy chair, a drink, settle down time for a good read…Lots of goodies for you this week…A good mix and something for everyone…Well unless you are a rocket scientist…haha.

great reads a weekly roundup lady with electronic reader

The Kombucha scoby is getting fatter and showing some white so I am guessing from what I have been reading that it is happy and doing its thing…Any hints and tips would be gratefully received for this newbie ( hopefully) successful Kombucha brewer…x

To any new readers…Welcome and if I haven’t personally thanked you for the follow it is because either your blog shows as private or your profile doesn’t link to your blog…I do however appreciate the follow…Thank you 🙂

To all those spammers...unlucky if I can block you I will or just get rid…You are not wanted or even read you are wasting precious energy and time…Begone!

Monday’s post was once again...Plastic, recycling any news I think is interesting and I will never run out of ideas…I watched a beautiful programme yesterday about Japan’s Earths, Enchanted Islands and the water which comes down in abundance from the mountains to the rice fields and the villages below …when it reaches this village …where no detergents are used when washing up the scraps are just washed in this beautiful water and each house has a carp pond underneath being bottom feeders they eat all the scraps and the water stays crystal clear as it was from its source it was amazing to watch…Absolutely amazing programme…A simple, effective system…

I explored using banana skins as fertiliser, Growing food without soil and should we be teaching kids how to grow food in schools…The answer was a resounding yes to that and it is happening around the world so many good news stories in the comments which I will go into tomorrow …

Eat Smart, Eat Healthily is now starting to reap the benefits for me …I have so much more energy..even in this heat…I am the lightest I have been for many, many years and I can’t believe I have taken this long to get my brain in gear and realise that…Yes, I still enjoy the odd treat…I eat food I love I just watch my portions…The best thing is I can go shopping here as the clothes sizes are smaller than the UK equivalent …I can pick from the racks for the first time in a long time and it is fun…Between my ideas and recipes and Sally’s health tips, I have cracked it…I hope you can too xx

I am back! Wednesday every fortnight over at Sally’s….This week I kicked off with measurements as they vary around the world and ingredients as well I still get stumped at times and have to look it up…I kept seeing a stick of butter in the ingredients list …We don’t all know what it is…I didn’t…I do now…So a plea to all you lovely home cooks spare a thought for those of us who may not know what some of your ingredients are…Pretty please…

Beetroot…One of my favourite vegetables…and it seems many of my readers favourite as well…Please if you have any recipes using beets share with us and I will link back to you…

Healthy Eating I can’t stress the benefits enough…However, stress can also kill…Of course, it can provide us with thrills and get that adrenaline going…But it can also KILL…Sally is the lady to listen too as she knows her stuff she delivers her knowledge clearly and concisely…She doesn’t( like) me pull any punches she tells it like it is… but leaves the reader feeling positive and knowing what to do…Keeping our heart and other major organs healthy can ensure we have a chance of living a longer life …Worth a read? I think so…x

About Carol Taylor:

Enjoying life in The Land Of Smiles I am having so much fun researching, finding new, authentic recipes both Thai and International to share with you. New recipes gleaned from those who I have met on my travels or are just passing through and stopped for a while. I hope you enjoy them.

I love shopping at the local markets, finding fresh, natural ingredients, new strange fruits and vegetable ones I have never seen or cooked with. I am generally the only European person and attract much attention and I love to try what I am offered and when I smile and say Aroy or Saab as it is here in the north I am met with much smiling.

Some of my recipes may not be in line with traditional ingredients and methods of cooking but are recipes I know and have become to love and maybe if you dare to try you will too. You will always get more than just a recipe from me as I love to research and find out what other properties the ingredients I use contain to improve our health and wellbeing.

The environment is also something I am passionate about and there will be more on this on my blog this year

CarolCooks2…Weekly Roundup…Pickles, Plastic, Thai Duck Larb, Heart Health and more…

Doesn’t time fly? No sooner has the week began it seems to be over. I hope you enjoy this weeks roundup a few changes I was getting bored…haha…So you know the drill…A comfy chair, a drink, settle down time for a good read…Lots of goodies for you this week…A good mix and something for everyone…Well unless you are a rocket scientist…haha.

To start the week its waste, plastic, climate change an update of what is going on…One of my concerns and something I am passionate about as we only have one world just like we only have one body…I have watched many videos and clips made by normal everyday people who are trying to do their best and the amount of rubbish in the seas is mind-blowing and the damage it is doing more to the point it seems however hard we try the local councils and government are dodging the issues.

Healthy Eating is a lifestyle and something we can train ourselves to do without thinking it becomes the norm…But what about the people who think these mostly dangerous quick fixes work…Are we becoming a nation of quick fixes?

Vitamin C...I call it the sunshine vitamin as most of the fruits and vegetables which contain lots of this vitamin are such lovely bright colours…They lift my spirits just by looking at them…Once again Sally is sharing her expert knowledge on why we need it and what happens to our bodies if we don’t get enough Vitamin C…Over to Sally x

Thursdays are now my Travel and Traditions day… Sea Gipsy’s have been the topic for the last two weeks a fascinating culture and people.

CarolCooks2…Weekly Roundup…Squidilicious, Cholesterol, How to brew green tea…

Welcome to this weeks roundup…Take a pew, grab your favourite drink and have a read most of all enjoy!

great reads a weekly roundup lady with electronic reader

How does plastic get into the sea?… It is the subject of many news desks, question time, documentary’s, in fact, it is on the news, it comes up on your FB news feed, magazines, newspapers..everyone is talking about plastic…But although plastic is a huge problem so are discarded fishing lines and nets so let’s not forget those and the distressing photos of turtles and fish with hooks in their bodies or caught in discarded nets and they can’t free themselves…So much abuse of the natural world is caused by man.

https://carolcooks2.com/2019/05/06/plastic-part-7-how-does-plastic-get-into-the-sea/

Healthy Eating...How is your eating plan going? If you have reached a plateau and we all do at times Sally has a written a great post with lots of tips …and there is also a video for some great arm exercises…

I am only walking and when I come back I am leaking like nobodies business…The humidity here but it seems to be helping me lose weight and inches so I am not complaining…haha

Cholesterol something which many people have or have a problem with or someone they know has a problem…Sally’s post busts the myths and gives you the facts…

I do a lot of research and I found this post very helpful as to what questions to ask and how to study…A very useful article if you do ant=y research or just look up things as you think of them …Which I do if I see a news article and want to check something out…

Squid or Calamari...I call it squid purely out of habit and it is called squid here in Thailand whereas in Europe it is called Calamari. What I buy here is definitely Calamari family but I refer to it as squid.  Squid is different it is cheaper and not so tender…If you are not sure ask your fishmonger or check out this post to see the difference between the two …Either way, the recipes are Squidilicious…

Green tea…So often I hear the comment as to it is bitter…It is if you don’t brew it correctly my post tells you how and you never have bitter tea again unless like me when I leave my little strainer in the pot…

First, post PET(E) and Climate change but do I agree on why the Climate is changing and what are really the pollutants? Let’s just say for now that I don’t believe blindly…I mean let’s take…

Salt, Sugar, Low-fat foods, Monsanto, celebrity endorsements I could go on and write War and Peace on that subject…One minute we are told DO NOT EAT and the next It is ok to eat….My motto..Do my own research to the best of my ability, watch, learn and listen and then make up my own mind …I speak English I do not go Baaa…

How to live longer...Have you found the Elixir of Life? Neither have I…But if we eat sensibly and healthily with a few treats, of course, we could extend our years on this beautiful planet by a few more…The Okinawans have…

Food …Are you hungry? Well, be sure that something will tickle those taste buds while reading the next post…B6 and how to determine if you have a B6 deficiency and which foods can help…Let me tell you just as a little teaser that bacon features in there somewhere

Waste Not! Want Not!…

CarolCooks2…Weekly roundup…Pomelo Salad, B5, Climate Change…

Happy Easter Flyer

Welcome to my weekly roundup…Before I start I would like to wish everyone who celebrates Easter a very happy Easter Holiday…

It is now time to grab a pew and a drink or some Easter chocolate, relax and have a read…

Not so much this week as I have been busy …Aston came back from his Thai nannies plus 1…Little Lily’s friend went home I think she was pleased after a week of sharing me…she said there are too many people here nannie…Bless her she likes a bit of quiet time and with 4 children in the house that doesn’t really happen…The last one goes home on Monday…Back to some semblance of normal, I hope…haha…

The first post of the week was on Climate change and plastic which is a hot topic now…There have been peaceful demonstrations in London hosted by the Extinction Rebellion… Peaceful protests started on Monday in London today marks the sixth consecutive day of disruption,  echoed in 80 cities, from India to the US the aim to get governments to sit up and start acting now not later when it may be too late. After six consecutive days, I am sure the British government now know what the feelings of the masses are as there has been so much support…Long Live people power…

green foot prints eco systemhttps://carolcooks2.com/2019/04/15/plastic-part-4/

Healthy eating…It really is too hot here to even contemplate cooking or even eating my diet has been mostly liquid…Water by the gallon…I also included a lovely pomelo salad which is now in season here…

https://carolcooks2.com/2019/04/16/healthy-eating-eat-smart-pomelo-salad/

Wednesday it was time for Sally’s and Carol’s post on B5 or pantothenic acid and as I have previously stated I am loving this series and learning so much as well thanx to Sally and her expertise on Health Matters…

Waste Not! Want Not! was my next post…Climate change is high on many peoples agenda this week with protesters out in their 100’s…I really do hope the momentum doesn’t fade and is kept going but it was heartwarming to see the public reacting as they did to make their point and peacefully it now up to those who can to LISTEN …

A mixed week this week with its fair share of news on the plastic and climate change front and the inability of those who can to stop greedy manufacturers and do what needs to be done pronto to stop all this waste and destruction of our oceans and the ecosystem…Yes, I did have an ickle rant…haha

https://carolcooks2.com/2019/04/01/plastic-the-latest-news-part-2-around-the-world/

It was then over to Sally’s for her weekly roundup…Lots of news, book reviews, cats and beans…

Eat smart and healthy…Tips and recipes and my views on my new toy my smartwatch…which told me this morning ” You went to sleep at 00.27 last night, which was a little late”…It does amuse me with its little nuances…But I really confused it( for a while) when I had a few cat naps the other night…haha…

Over to Sally’s again for our new series on how to prevent nutritional deficiencies Vitamin B3-Niacin…I am loving this series as I am learning so much about what the food I eat contains and I like to know always have and always will…

Time for my first post on the Ultimate Blog Challenge for April I do let myself in for some things don’t I…But I do love a prompt…The first one was a book review…Food Forensics…Did that surprise anyone?

Did you know that the humble Cabbage is categorized amongst the oldest vegetable worldwide as it dates back thousands of years? Brassica oleracea, which is the wild forerunner of cabbage, was first discovered in Asia Minor and in eastern Mediterranean regions. Soldiers in Mongolia and China preserved the first pickled version of cabbage in brine.

But it was Beer which holds the title of the earliest recorded recipe…

Exciting for me hence the title of my blog, Retired No One Told Me! I am having a wonderful ride and don’t want to get off, so if you wish to follow me on my adventures, then I bid you welcome! I hope you enjoy the ride also and if it encourages you to take a step into the unknown or untried, you know you want to…….Then, I will be happy!

CarolCooks2…Weekly roundup…Keffir Limes, Microplastics, Glitter, Beans…

Welcome to my weekly roundup time to take a pew, grab a drink, settle down and enjoy if you have missed any posts or if you just like to catch up once a week…

great reads a weekly roundup lady with electronic reader

Starting with a subject close to my heart is plastic…It may be that many of you are thinking …Not again…Well yes, it invades every aspect of our lives and is reaching/reached unprecedented proportions…the improvement of waste management systems across the world is critical to addressing plastic pollution…Overall, approximately 80% of ocean plastics come from land-based sources, and 20% from marine sources…

I don’t think I am alone in wanting a cleaner safer world for my children and grandchildren and I don’t think I am alone in wanting the healthiest body I can have…I just speak my mind… I think food is to be enjoyed and I enjoyed my food…I even have the odd treat…

In fact last night my grandkids bought me a small packet of haribos and gave them to me with the words I know you said you didn’t want anything Nannie but we brought you a small bag …I haven’t had any for months and it was one of those little tiny bags so I ate the few jelly teddies and enjoyed them…It was a rare treat!… So be it jellies or chocolate whatever your sweet treat …No guilt …Enjoy!

Easter is on its way and who doesn’t love a buttered hot cross bun fresh from the oven?

Microplastics…Glitter…Anything glittery I love for parties, weddings, cosmetics, bath bombs, crafts etc etc …No matter how old we are a bit of glitter makes us feel good…

Not so for the poor marine life when it washes down our waste pipes and ends up in the waterways and seas…What goes around comes around …It eventually ends up back with us in our tummies…

It was or is then time for you to join me in my kitchen…I had lots of green tomatoes so it was a green tomato and egg curry…Went down well for my meat-free dinner and the smell of hot cross buns baking is just one of the best …Isn’t it?? Closely followed by the lovely smell of the chicken with Kaffir lime …Just beautiful…
