Thursday Thoughts…16th March 2023…Do mermaids exist Part 2…Septic Tanks…Riverdance…

Welcome to Thursday Thoughts this week has been busy in my mind so many thoughts and so many rabbit holes either from posts, social media or just browsing…

Willow Croft’s comment on last week’s Thursday Thought’s made me go “Ewww” however it also made me think…another rabbit hole- not smiling-

Okay, forgive me for getting a little…off-colour…but someone I know was dealing with a septic tank issue, and they were like, “Why can’t we use the bacteria in the tank” and the septic tank person was like “People eat so much processed food that the bacteria don’t work anymore…they just die, because they can’t break down the, ahem, waste.”

Food for thought or not as the case may be...I know that chemicals in cleaning products, fabric softeners, latex products, medicines, drain cleaners, bleach, fats, grease and crushed food can have a negative effect …Thoughts?

Last week I asked the question do mermaids exist…if you watched the video(s) you may well have thought just maybe Disney is right…and then I watched these ..well I go where the rabbit holes take me…

Tomorrow March 17th is St Patrick’s Day or the Feast of Saint Patrick, a cultural and religious holiday celebrated every year in Ireland and by Irish communities around the world…there will be parades and marching bands… and lots of green and orange…The celebration marks the anniversary of Saint Patrick’s death in the fifth century and represents the arrival of Christianity in the country…

Many old-school Irish dishes are cosy and comforting, as they were made with ingredients that could withstand and soothe the people during harsh winters, like beef, potatoes, cabbage and onions. Some of Ireland’s native dishes were born from a place of scarcity, hence dishes like Irish stew and coddle a  layered, slowly braised dish of pork sausage, potatoes, onion and bacon rashers; the people at times needed to make a lot with a little, and were adept at reducing waste, making meals more filling and preserving what they had.

Potatoes feature in many Irish recipes and no doubt there will be Colcannon or Champ at every meal…and of course corned beef and cabbage…Happy St Patricks Day tomorrow to everyone who celebrates…Enjoy!

However…due to the Global Energy Crisis…

Ireland’s tradition of lighting up landmarks green for March 17 will be put on pause again for 2023.

Now for some music(and dance)…March 16th 2000 after years of international touring and even a TV broadcast, the Celtic dance revue Riverdance opens at the Gershwin Theatre under the title Riverdance – on Broadway and runs 605 performances.

Thank you for joining me today for those of you with snow and freezing weather stay safe and warm and for those of you who have sunshine and warmth enjoy as always I look forward to your comments and appreciate any shares xx

Thursday Thoughts…9th March 2023…Hersheys Chocolate Burger, 42nd Street plus Processed Food v Industrially Manufactured Foods.

Welcome to Thursday Thoughts this week has been busy in my mind so many thoughts and so many rabbit holes either from posts, social media or just browsing…

Intrigued to know whether the burgers featured on John Rieber’s posts had arrived in Thailand as often they do well Mcdonald’s has introduced the Samurai Burger however it has no red bun…Popping over to Burger King I discovered that until the 31st of March, they have…Ta Da!

Burger King Thailand’s Hershey’s Collection menu, in collaboration with the famous chocolate company, is available until March 31. One of the items you can order from the menu is the outrageous Hershey’s Chocolate Burger (THB129), which comprises Burger King’s signature flame-grilled patty made from 100% Australian beef, a slice of American cheese, and crunchy bacon drizzled with Hershey’s premium chocolate sauce and sandwiched between chocolate buns…One for chocolate lovers then…Chocolate goes with chilli and an authentic Mexican chilli has chocolate in it and we have mole sauce with chicken etc…so why not on a burger?

Chocolate heaven or hell?…

On this day in 1933 “42nd Street” a musical film revolving around rehearsals for a Broadway show, directed by Lloyd Bacon, with choreography by Busby Berkeley, and songs by Harry Warren and Al Dubin, premiered at the Strand, NYC; later adapted as a stage musical…

It ran for 3,486 performances

Those of you who know me know I am always banging the drum for chemical-free food, fresh food not processed or industrially manufactured… therefore I am passing you over to Sally from Smorgasbord Magazine where she has penned a fantastic article on Processed foods vs. Industrially manufactured foods …

I’m sure you can see some of the foods here that you may buy or have done so or that you avoid like the plague…all will be revealed if you click the highlighted link below…

Thursday Thoughts…2nd March 2023…Red Burger Buns?…Rabbit Holes, Fitness Update and Artificial Intelligence…

Welcome to Thursday Thoughts this week has been busy in my mind so many thoughts and so many rabbit holes either from posts, social media or just browsing…

I have long been a fan of Rod Stewart from the early days when he performed at the Blue Rooms (Brays Grove School) with Long John Baldry even Elton John was a member of Baldry’s band…they stayed friends up until Baldry’s passing and in Rods early days Rod and Baldry each produced one side of It Ain’t Easy which became Baldry’s most popular album…

He has long been rich and famous and some prefer his early music as do I but he is clocking up the years and growing old gracefully-smile- in the music world but he still has that spark and will always be a favourite of mine…he also has a common touch and a big heart and puts his money where his mouth is…I love this and before anyone, pipes up he doesn’t need the publicity but of course, it happens I don’t doubt for one minute the manner in which he gave this gift…I hope others follow his example and give back to society it certainly needs it…

Well done Rod x

I love John Rieber’s quest for quirky and unusual foods he always brings a smile to my face and sometimes a “really” but his posts are fun and in this one, John has found that after the black burger bun a red burger bun called Samurai Red Burger from the inventive and quirky Japanese was born…samurai red beef burger

Please head over to John’s to read the original post by clicking the highlighted link below and say hello you will get a warm welcome…

https://biteeatrepeat.com/2023/02/27/samurai-red-burgers-are-here-black-tongue-burgers-and-bourbon-burgers-too-hamburgers-get-a-colorful-upgrade/

Rabbit holes…It all started …well not in the beginning but this started in my mind a train of thoughts with Beetleypete’s post and the more I read a post that Pete shared it then took me on a journey culminating in this from a comment that Liz left on Pete’s post…

A bit of background…AI or in full Artificial Intelligence… is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems…the scary thing for me is that machines are gradually taking over our lives and thoughts…years ago when Ford the motor company started using robotic arms to apply car parts I said that humans would be replaced eventually and they have been in so many ways…but that is progress I hear you say and yes but with that comes the downside…where will it stop?

This is a very interesting read from Liz it may be long but for me worth the read…if we are not already being careful (what)we wish for we should be…

https://www.poetryintranslation.com/PITBR/Spanish/LorcaDuende.php

like Liz, I will leave it at that and also feel a rant forming…but also a great sadness for the future if we are not careful the very essence of our being will be gone…

Now on to something I can control…My Fitness Update for February…

For the month of February, I completed 143.14km up by 10.71km from January’s total exercise. My knee is now 97% better I am not sure whether I will restart the jogging or just stick to fast walking as it has taken a while to heal and maybe I am pushing it a bit at my age…

The total calories burned over the month was 8,702kcals blimey but it’s worth it when I look at my BP average for the month of 108/72 and the fact I can eat virtually what I want just smaller portions as long as I keep the exercise up…To me, that’s a good trade as I’m also getting lots of fresh air and a good night’s sleep…

Thank you for coming down my rabbit hole today I appreciate your visits, comments and shares…xx

Monday Musings…

Welcome to Monday Musings where my muse pinpoints anything exciting or unusual I have read, seen or experienced during the last week it could be anything that piques my interest…

On Monday something popped up and reminded me that I watched with my dad the time that John Glenn orbited the earth 3 times my father was an avid space travel fan and although we were over the pond we watched every second of this awesome achievement.

The natural antibiotic in the spotlight last week was Colloidal Silver used by many for colds and viruses even as a cure for pink eye…the music of course there has to be music-smile-was from Whoopie and “Sister Act”

https://carolcooks2.com/2023/02/20/monday-musings-20th-february-2023/

On Tuesday I snuck an extra post in as it was Shrove Tuesday and for many that meant pancakes…

There are many versions of the pancake and some like super thin crepes (like) moi or the thicker pancakes with maybe maple syrup and caramelised bananas with a squirt of cream both are delicious or as a savoury pancake and why not ..it’s whatever tickles your tastebuds…

Pancake Day…21st February 2023…Aka Shrove Tuesday, Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday…Lacy, thin crepes or Japanese pancakes…?

Last week’s virtual tour of my A-Z of World Cuisine was Finland the land of reindeer and midnight sun…The Finns respect their long-held traditions and also love other cuisines so whether you hanker to try Finland’s traditional foods or eat foods from around the world you will find it all there…

From lovely rye bread to Karelian pasties/pies or Sautéed reindeer the choice is vast…and I have heard tell that the Hesburger knocks the spots of a Mcdonald’s burger…

Thursday Thoughts…

It seems many of you remember “Dolly ” the sheep and cloning of animals still seems to go on from beloved pets to racehorses the video is an interesting one and worth a watch…it was BeetleyPete who reminded me of Biba and provided me with a great link so if you too were a Biba girl then you may love it as much as I did and continuing with my unusual musical pairings it was Metallica and San Fransisco Symphony Orchestra who knew and it’s brilliant…I loved it!

Monday Musings.

The start of another week time is flying by…this week’s natural antibiotic was grapefruit, I think many of us can remember the Grapefruit diet being hailed as a miracle and a fast fix…however, grapefruit has far more benefits to us than a miracle diet, BYO how many times have you felt embarrassed to ask if your own container can be filled to be met with a panicked look or an outright no! The times are changing, and of course, we had Valentine’s Day I hope you ladies and gents were spoiled the music was from Oliver one of my favourite songs sung by Nancy “As long as he needs me”…

Monday Musings…13th February 2023…Natural Antibiotics…Grapefruit Extract, BYO the Canadians do? Valentines or Bah Humbug!
