Saturday Snippets…12th June 2022…Today’s one-word prompt is “Spin”

Welcome to Saturday Snippets this is one of my favourite posts of the week I learn much from my research and your comments so please keep them coming…

Today’s word prompt is “Spin”…when my muse suggested “Spin” my first thoughts were of a spinning top something every baby and toddler loves and a spinning wheel the thread sliding through a  hand and I thought of the story of “Sleeping Beauty” who pricked her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel…the most natural found top is the simple acorn…

The history of the spinning top is quite fascinating and there is no one place in time that can claim the invention as they have and are found on almost every continent in one guise or another…Archaeologically Clay tops were found in the ancient city of Ur in the Middle East dating from 3,500 B.C.  Ceramic spinning tops made of terra cotta were found at Troy (Turkey) dating from 3,000 B.C. In Egypt wooden tops date from 2,000 B.C. In China, tops were found to date from 1,250 B.C. In Thebes, Greece fired clay tops found to date from 1,250 B.C.

Spinning a Dreidel...A dreidel is a spinning top with four sides, each inscribed with a letter of the Hebrew alphabet. The Hebrew letters inscribed on a dreidel are a Nun, Gimel, Hey or Chai, and Shin…translated this means nothing, everything, half and pay…this is a traditional game of chance that used to be played during the eight days of Hanukkah.

Spin coating is a method to apply a uniform film onto a solid surface by using centrifugal force and requires a liquid-vapour interface. In a typical procedure, a liquid is placed at the centre of a circular surface and is rapidly rotated to produce uniform films of 1–10 μm in thickness.

Spin Doctors …

I have only listened to this song by Rod Stewart…This version is a first for me and its ok…sung by The Spin Doctors who are an American alternative rock band from New York City, best known for their early 1990s hits “Two Princes” and “Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong”,..this song was written by John Fogerty and first released as a single in 1971 from the album Pendulum (1970) by rock group Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Spin Glass…The Spin Glass system won the 2021 Nobel Prize…

Spinach…No wonder popeye ate his spinach as Spinach is rich in iron, vitamin C and E, potassium, and magnesium…this iron-rich vegetable is a must to include in your diet…I’m not a fan of green smoothies but quite happy to eat spinach with my scrambled eggs…

Cheesy scrambled eggs with spinach…

Whisk 3-4 eggs, add salt and black pepper and set aside. Heat olive oil in a pan and add 3-4 cups of spinach and cook till it wilts. Add the whisked eggs and stir till the eggs are cooked. Sprinkle with grated cheese and paprika, and serve…

Spinning Rod…all you fishermen out there will know more than me about a spinning rod..so over you…

The spinning cactus mammillaria spinosissima is so pretty when it flowers…my father used to keep cacti although I never have… this beautiful cactus is often known by the nickname of the “red-headed Irishman” or the spiny pincushion cactus…

Those prickly spines that are so characteristic of the cactus family are actually modified leaves! Cactuses don’t have the kind of leaves like a maple or oak tree.

The Spīn Ghar is a mountain range in South Asia…

Spin the Wheel…gambling it seems is as old as time in one form or another…The oldest casino in the world, the Casino di Venezia, sits on the Grand Canal in Venice. Opened in 1638, it was originally a theatre called the Theatre Saint Moses, which had a wing for gambling during the intermissions of plays. It helped spark the start of a casino craze in Venice—by 1744, there were more than 120…now there are upwards of 9284 around the world…

That’s all for Saturday Snippets today I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and as always I look forward to your comments xx
