Latest recycling and environmental news…7th October 2019…

Let’s look at what has been going on in this everchanging world of Climate Change??? There is always news every day now but I do wonder how much is really true and how much is scaremongering…Am I the only one?

It seems not from last weeks comments which I always welcome but first some good news…One 12-year-old girl in Thailand is taking up the call to action. See what Lilly is getting up to…

Thank you Alethea for bringing this to my attention…With so much focus on the young Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg lately, you may have missed Indigenous water warrior Autumn Peltier addressing world leaders at the United Nations about protecting water.

Just 15 years old, Autumn is a Anishinaabe-kwe and a member of the Wikwemikong First Nation and an internationally recognized champion for clean water. Here are two videos showing how Autumn first started her quest and where she is today…

Now two years older …Autumns latest speech to the UN…

Two inspiring young ladies who are quietly making changes and getting their voices heard… They have no big names and corporations behind them just their own passion.
October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
A subject dear to my heart my daughter is a survivor as are many friends BUT also I know many who were not…I am a firm believer that with many cancers both environmental factors and diet have an impact.

Join The Movement And Stop Food Waste #StopTheWaste

The United Nations World Food Programme is on a mission to stop food waste. It may be a mouldy piece of cheese or an old carrot. There’s often some frightful foodstuff festering at the back of the fridge. But very often, these seemingly spoiled items can be rescued and included in a tasty dish. That is why the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) today announced the launch of Stop the Waste. This is a global campaign to raise awareness about the huge amounts of edible food that is discarded daily. A habit that must be overcome if the world is going to make real progress in eradicating global hunger.

Nestle has been on my hit list for a number of years due to their unethical practises and I don’t buy their products…Over the last year, they seem to have been doing an about-turn…But are they serious???
Beth posted on their proposed new wrappers which sound good…Searching for a video I came across this one…Which does seem to pose doubts …What do you think?
Can a leopard change its spots?

That is all from me for this week I look forward to your comments…How are you reducing your families carbon footprints?

About Carol Taylor:

Enjoying life in The Land Of Smiles I am having so much fun researching, finding new, authentic recipes both Thai and International to share with you. New recipes gleaned from those who I have met on my travels or are just passing through and stopped for a while. I hope you enjoy them.

I love shopping at the local markets, finding fresh, natural ingredients, new strange fruits and vegetable ones I have never seen or cooked with. I am generally the only European person and attract much attention and I love to try what I am offered and when I smile and say Aroy or Saab as it is here in the north I am met with much smiling.

Some of my recipes may not be in line with traditional ingredients and methods of cooking but are recipes I know and have become to love and maybe if you dare to try you will too. You will always get more than just a recipe from me as I love to research and find out what other properties the ingredients I use contain to improve our health and wellbeing.

The environment is also something I am passionate about and there are now regular columns on my blog this year. It is important that we are mindful of the world we live in…We all need to be aware of our homes carbon footprints…where does our food come from? How far does it travel…Simple to do but if we all did it…Not only would we support local businesses but reduce our carbon footprint…

Latest recycling and environmental news…23rd September 2019

Good morning…I hope you all had a glorious weekend…Let’s look at what has been going on in this everchanging world of Climate Change??? There is always news every day now but I do wonder how much is really true and how much is scaremongering…Am I the only one?

Lots of protests the school children and their supporters were out in force last week all around the world…It is lovely to see such passion…Young Greta in many ways is to be admired for taking a stand…

BUT…

Do the majority of these kids really take a look at their own pampered lives…AND HOW THEY CAN CHANGE?

For example, many children here want air-conditioning in their classrooms…In fact, in some schools, there is a very distinct class line depending on which programme parents/children choose and pay for…air con will be in every classroom for the better off the other children open the windows and may get a fan …This is a quite recent generational thing and growing…You get what you pay for…

Something which was a luxury is now becoming a necessity…Note: I have aircon(pre ) installed in the house we do not use it…we use fans to cool the air…Just saying x

School classes...Many lessons are now computerised and hands up…How many TV’s do you have in your house and do all your kids insist on a TV in their bedroom??? Personally, I have been a wicked parent and we have never allowed or had TV’s in bedrooms and still, don’t… we have one TV situated in the lounge… devices are all well and good but no one needs every single new device which comes out on the market…

It is also how you dispose of those devices when broken or unwanted…Don’t just throw them in the general trash…

Greta was very admirable taking a boat instead of flying around the world…Not practical in every situation but we should all consider alternative means of transport where possible…

However...How many of these striking children arrive at school in private cars which worsen rush hour traffic instead of walking, taking the bus or riding a bike????

Trendy Teenagers… Are the biggest consumers of manufactured goods ever and update perfectly good expensive luxury items to stay trendy, their entertainment comes from electric devices.

I hope all these striking and protesting teenagers are looking at their own lifestyles.

I hope…When they are in school or continuing with their day to day activities that they consider this…Will they be changing their lifestyles like they want us to? Are they considering what their constant use of electronic devices does to the environment or are they only intent on joining the masses …
Will they…

  • Walk, ride a bike or take a bus to school
  • Tell the teachers to turn off the aircon
  • Make a sandwich instead of buying fast food
  • Turn off your device and read a book

Will all you prince and princesses who have been brought up to be selfish and are pandered by adults who pamper their kids because they have a need to show the world how much they have and that they love their kids… Look at their own lives instead of telling the world to look at ours…

Have you done your own research to ascertain the facts or are you just blindly following others?
Who are the people behind your protests are you a means to their ends? Once they have done with you …Will you be able to continue your lives…unscathed?

These are all questions going through my head…Does anyone else have the same questions? Is it just me?

What I do admire is those two little girls who took their concerns to both McDonald’s and Burger King…They were undeterred by the lack of initial response from these two companies and persisted in collecting their signatures…Writing their letters…They enabled the help of Anita and Hugh…

THE RESULT:

Burger King is removing all plastic toys from their children’s meals…Way to go Burger King and… Well done Emma and Kaitlin…

They have achieved this by quietly writing their letters ( after school) Collecting their signatures and unwanted plastic toys….What a result…Love it!

It’s the little people who get great results by quietly doing their thing…

This next horror story because it is… came through my friend Pat…She lives in a beautiful part of Australia and is gradually seeing her world destroyed by bad, greedy government decisions…I made a promise to highlight this for her…

This is apparently now reached crisis point…People cannot even clean their teeth…They have 2 dams and one is completely dry the other is at 8% capapcity almost dry…The water is still being diverted or illegally stolen…The Murray Darling River is running dry..

Life expectancy if you live in this area is 37 years for men and 42 years for women…Yet corruption continues to be sanctioned by successive governments…

When will man stop and realise what damage they are doing to both the planet and its inhabitants????

Waste Not! Want Not! Week 21…Climate Change…

Wow…What a week…Climate change is becoming a hot potato for governments around the world…The people are speaking…They have found their voice and a powerful one it is…Well done one and all…

green foot prints eco system

So much is happening in the world around us that there are going to have to be many changes or life as we know it will not exist…Climate change, food. plastic, waste they are all connected to each other they all affect one another…Seriously the world is in trouble it may not seem like that to many of you cocooned in your comfy part of the world but food affects our health as does climate change everything is interlinked…

Young Greta Thunberg met with some Uk politicians and gave them a few home truths telling them as a young person sees it without any thought of being politically correct just telling it as she sees it…Go, Greta…

It sounds to me that around the world The People have had enough of politicians their inaction and fundamental greed…

This young lady shows her dedication by her actions she travels from country to country not by aeroplane but by train so as to keep her carbon footprint down…

If you watch these videos I defy you not to be moved and not to admire a young girls passion and dream for a better world…

She is correct when she said it is not being highly publicised which is the case about many things like this atrocity which happened in Japan…

Have the world’s newspapers allowed themselves to be gagged…Do we no longer have ” Free Press”…It was hard-won… Newspapers began circulating in the 17th century. The first real newspaper in England was printed in 1665. The first successful daily newspaper in Britain was printed in 1702. The first American newspaper was printed in 1690. It was called Publick Occurrences Both Foreign and Domestic. The first newspaper in Canada was the Halifax Gazette in 1752. The first daily American newspaper was published in 1784.

Media companies are supposed to serve the public interest. Sometimes that’s at odds with the conglomerate owners who control traditional media voices. I think it is happening more and more that news is being stifled…

There are some powerful people in this world and they seem as if they can stop anything…

This ” Invisible East China Sea oil spill for example…

A fiery collision that sank an Iranian tanker in the East China Sea a month ago has resulted in an environmental threat that experts say is unlike any before: an almost invisible type of petroleum has begun to contaminate some of the most important fishing grounds in Asia, from China to Japan and beyond.

Environmental Disaster! Massive dam wall collapse at Australian mine threatens Murray-Darling system...Once again the greed of the Australian government is revealed.

The one thing I love about Australian Press is how they tell it like it is…Australia is just one beautiful country which is being betrayed by its government who allow big corporations to line their pockets …

We need people like Greta Thunberg and Jeremy Buckingham to tell us how it is AND then like the protesters in London last week with fellow Authors and Bloggers Sue Hampton and Leslie Tate who joined the London protests and the others around the world, we as people who live in this beautiful world need to not only agree but stand up and be counted…as well!

Politicians work for us...We as the consumer choose where we buy our food from…We have a voice…That voice is now being heard…Can you hear my voice…Can your children and your neighbours hear YOUR VOICE…

Time to speak out and be heard! Just like Sue Hampton and Leslie Stewart Tate …

Let us start with Sue who is one of my friends on FB and posts beautiful pictures of herself with an equally beautiful baby…Who would have thought I certainly didn’t that she would join the throngs …Yes, there were many people from all walks of life who felt strongly enough to say “Enough is enough” and I will make my voice heard…If I still lived in the Uk I would have joined them…Sue Hampton and Leslie Tate did!

Sue on the front line

Here is Sue’s account...Not the press who showed pictures of the rubbish and mess that was left behind…False News once again…But a lady with the courage of her convictions…xxx

Sue was not there alone she was with her partner Leslie Tate knowing what the consequences that their actions could be…Read all about it here

XR-Waterloo-Bridge-300x200

Thank you from me Sue and Leslie for your actions…You are both to be admired and congratulated for standing up and sending a message to not only the people but to the government that…

The People have Spoken and Acted…xxx

Thank you for reading this post and please pop over to both Sue and Leslie’s blogs to read the whole story about their arrests and leave a message to show them that they have our support in the blog world…xxx

Plastic…Part 5…Plastic releases Greenhouse Gases…

Just like Healthy Eating if we do not shop mindfully impacts on Food Waste…The manufacture of plastics and plastic, when exposed to the elements, releases methane and ethylene – two powerful greenhouse gases that can intensify climate change.

green foot prints eco system

It is little wonder that Sir David Attenborough was moved to give an update as the situation regarding Climate change is worsening by the day…

The first thing we need to do is to stop using single-use plastic, especially products made of LDPE (for example, grocery bags, 6-pack rings, sandwich and snack bags, strawberry containers, and plastic wrap).

We already know that greenhouse gases are released during the production of these materials, and now we have learned that greenhouse gases continue to be released while in use and as they degrade. We need to begin to phase them out entirely. In addition, we need better laws and policies to guide consumers to make better choices. If single-use plastics are banned, consumers will adapt and find alternative ways of bagging their groceries or filling a bottle, these being reusable items rather than items used for a few minutes and then discarded.

Many of us myself included take the easy option because it is there, easy and often free. Although now I realise the urgency I take my own bags and refuse all plastic bags/straws and cups…

Government Policies can help make a difference globally…

However, we have seen how man governments are either paying lip service or blatantly doing nothing…

People Power has spoken…Well and truly in the UK over the last week…I am immensely proud of each and every one of those protesters and it was a peaceful protest which caused much inconvenience as from Monday 15th April: Extinction Rebellion blocked Marble Arch, Oxford Circus, Waterloo Bridge and Parliament Square…The aim was to man these sites around the clock until the government acts on Climate Emergency…

The London actions are part of a wider rebellion taking place across the Uk and around the world…Extinction Rebellion has 331 groups in 49 different countries…

We saw…Actor and writer Dame Emma Thomson give a speech she flew all the way from the Us to give this speech…

Actress and activist Dame Emma Thompson said: “Our Government has signed agreement after agreement and broken every single promise they made with staggering regularity. It is time to stand up and Save Our Home.

“On April the 15th of this year, the international rebellion will begin, all over this country, [and at] four iconic [London] locations, creative non-violent direct action will start to take place. Come down, be with us. There will be talks, politics, music, arts. It’s gonna be a lot of fun, but be prepared to stay. Because now’s the time to save the planet, as we all know there is no planet B. Be there.”

Dr Rowan Williams…joined fellow worshipers and others as St Pauls Cathedral People of all faiths, everyday people, eminence church figures, celebrities are all concerned enough to take a public stance…

The traffic on all designated sites was peacefully blocked there was even a big bright pink boat…

There were people’s assemblies, art actions, stage performances, talks, workshops, food and family spaces. People brought plants, shrubs and picnics to share.

In fact, quite a festive atmosphere but with a serious message to the government…

For more news and information and how to get involved, please visit Extinction Rebellion’s new website at https://rebellion.earth/

This protest was very well planned and thought through to read all about click here

I have also been told by people who attended these protests that the police handled the situation very well and although arrests were made the police were respectful and everyone had nothing but praise…

It really has been a countrywide protest by the people supported by the clergy,  businessmen and celebrities and has spread around the world…The people are speaking and taking action…

In France, the protesters were met with aggression…Brave protesters in Paris have been sprayed with teargas directly in the face!

Children from around the world are responding to young Greta Thornburg and her calls for action…

My conclusion if the people are doing what they are doing as they are concerned about the future why are the governments of the world making empty promises and not acting quickly to prevent worldwide catastrophe…..It boils down to the same old same old …Profit and greed…

Thank you for reading this post and please if you are concerned about the future of our world and the effect of Climate change …Action is needed now….xx
