Welcome to the round up of posts you might have missed on Smorgasbord during the week.

It has been bitterly cold here for the last few days but thankfully the threatened snow seems to have changed its mind. Considering how wet we normally are, we seem to have hit a dry patch which is fine by us.

A little bright spot in the week has been the primroses that I transplanted from the pots at the beginning of summer as they began to wilt into some rough soil around some bushes.. I put some soil in a hole and plonked them in to see if they would perky up. And they have thrived and flowered ever since through rain, snow, hail for the last nine months. Welcome to the round up of posts you might have missed on Smorgasbord this week.

A quick intro today as I have very little to report on the home front.. the weather is the same, lockdown extended to March 5th and more travel restrictions in place. On the bright side, we did binge watch the last four James Bond’s to get ourselves ready to watch the new one when it eventually gets released.

We are also enjoying our foreign language series, particularly the Scandinavian shows, and amazing how quickly you forget the subtitles. They are also very well made and thankfully missing so much of the unnecessary chit chat that the English speaking series seem to contain.. in one show we watched last week 20 minutes of a murder mystery was spent with two of the detectives bickering in a car on their way from one scene to another.. I must…

Welcome to the round up of posts from the week on Smorgasbord that you might have missed.

An historic week for the UK when finally Brexit happened last night at 11 p.m. I was 20 years old when we joined the Common Market 47 years ago and it seemed like a great idea at the time. Trade between the partners without tariffs and joint projects and co-operation across borders, which made sense in the aftermath of the Cold War and an extended period of peace in Europe.

Unfortunately (in my opinion), like most well-intentioned projects, this went off the rails once it became a European United States with far more members than originally, many of whom who were not financially stable. Primarily in response to the power of the United States and Russia, but also to open the door to controlling  many aspects of our daily lives as possible. Some…
