Recycling and Climate Change…18th May 2020…and Covid-19…

Hello and welcome to this weeks edition of recycling and climate change news from around the world. Covid-19 is still dominating the news many countries now are relaxing their quarantines and already some are seeing an increase in new cases.

Thailand is not as yet but they were prepared as were the other countries in south-east Asia…Having dealt with Sars and other pandemics Asia is prepared…We don’t have a problem wearing masks and many do regardless of whether or not there is a pandemic.

We don’t protest we just accept that there will be quarantines and social isolation and get on with it…

Not so in most western countries people object…well it’s not being weak, scared or stupid or even controlled it’s me being considerate…The government is not controlling me…I am a contributing adult to society…I am wearing the mask not for me but for you…

Are you wearing one for me???

So what is going on in the world with regards to climate change and recycling are you still doing your bit???

I wrote about shark finning a while ago how sharks are caught and definned then dumped back into the sea still alive but with no capacity to be able to swim they just sink and drown…It is still big business…38,500 sharks look like this…and for what?

It is barbaric and inhuman ...Sharks are at the top of the ecosystem … Sharks are very important to the ecosystem as they are good housekeepers they eat the sick and weak leaving the healthiest of marine species to breed and thrive. Some feed on carcasses of dead creatures lying on the sea bed just like we vacuum or sweep our floors they keep the sea bed clean…

Covid-19 has seen the increase in wildlife and Mumbai is an example of this…Where lockdowns have seen nature returning.

What a wonderful sight…

For whales, silence is golden…the lockdown has reduced ocean noise…

I think we should learn a lesson from what mother nature is telling us…

Nurdles are a new one on me…I have never ever heard of them…Have you?  They’re the pre-production building blocks for nearly all plastic goods, from soft drink bottles to oil pipelines. But as essential as they are for consumer products, nurdles that become lost during transit or manufacturing are also an environmental hazard.

Gosun offers products that use solar power …

Some of these inventions are just awesome…

These are also hard times for many if their jobs are furlonged it may be difficult to find enough food to feed their families…Milk is hard to store and the cows keep producing it…To save it going to waste and to help the milk industry…the Kroger grocery store chain has ramped-up its Dairy Rescue Program, one that takes donated excess raw milk normally sold to restaurants or hotels, which is now going to waste, and pays for the packaging and processing in order to provide a nutritious food source for communities in need.

The effort also helps support dairy farmers struggling to find enough demand for their supply—especially now that schools are closed.

I love how manufacturers and businesses are standing up and helping the less fortunate.

Wow..what an enterprising and caring young man…Jeffrey Wall just turned 15, yet he is the founder of Golden Age Karate, an outreach program he began last October to teach seniors at the Friendship Village nursing home in his hometown of Dayton, Ohio.

To me there is hope…what a lovely young man…

After the Covid-19 crisis will we get a greener world? I am sure this is a question many people are asking… the cleaner air, burgeoning urban wildlife, and our sudden, dramatic shift to a less carbon-intensive lifestyle reveals the scope of what we can achieve in just days. This is something to cling to as we navigate the twin storms of Covid-19 and climate. We know that the climate crisis will not wait for a more convenient time; we must deal with it and the pandemic crisis concurrently.

We are experiencing behavioural changes, some of which may be ingrained within us permanently…travel and consumption patterns have in the main become more responsible – they are helpful in reducing pollution, just as hand-washing helps in the pandemic. But what the expected 8% emissions reduction figure shows us is that individual action – driving your car less, attending a meeting via Zoom rather than taking a business flight – is not going to be enough.

Equally, it shows that moving to a no-growth economy is not the answer, as some have argued. Instead, systemic transformative action is required at international and state level to get the effective reductions in atmospheric carbon that will bring us to net zero.

My hope for the future is a cleaner world… I do want to see communities, and caring for your neighbour becoming the new norm…WORKING TOGETHER INSTEAD OF WORKING AGAINST EACH OTHER…Can we make this happen? Are we willing to make a stand? Personally, I would love to see lessons learnt ..realistically I have my doubts…

Thank you for reading be well and stay safe xxx

About Carol Taylor: Enjoying life in The Land Of Smiles I am having so much fun researching, finding new, authentic recipes both Thai and International to share with you. New recipes gleaned from those who I have met on my travels or are just passing through and stopped for a while. I hope you enjoy them.

I love shopping at the local markets, finding fresh, natural ingredients, new strange fruits and vegetable ones I have never seen or cooked with. I am generally the only European person and attract much attention and I love to try what I am offered and when I smile and say Aroy or Saab as it is here in the north I am met with much smiling.

Some of my recipes may not be in line with traditional ingredients and methods of cooking but are recipes I know and have become to love and maybe if you dare to try you will too. You will always get more than just a recipe from me as I love to research and find out what other properties the ingredients I use contain to improve our health and wellbeing.

Exciting for me hence the title of my blog, Retired No One Told Me! I am having a wonderful ride and don’t want to get off, so if you wish to follow me on my adventures, then welcome! I hope you enjoy the ride also and if it encourages you to take a step into the unknown or untried, you know you want to…….Then, I will be happy!

Thank you once again for reading this post I hope you all stay safe and healthy xx

Recycling and Climate Change…6th April 2020… Wildlife returns …

Nature is ever powerful and can regenerate so much faster than maybe even the learned scientists knew…Will lessons be learnt…I do hope so…Amongst all this tragedy we have to take some positives we have to believe that the world and its inhabitants can and will change for the better respect nature more…

The future may be very different but not all bad maybe we needed this …I know mother Nature did…

Image what it could be like after a couple of months…Changes are coming and changes are needed bit will we heed the signs?

I would also love to share this as the sound of this choir is heard in the now quiet streets of Charing Cross, London…Beautiful and poignant…

I am one of the people who while I applaud the banning of single-use plastic bags it is a tad hypocritical when much of our food comes in bottles and containers which need specialist recycling…In these scary times, this video made me smile…Yes, I do have a weird sense of humour at times…

Did it make you smile…the cashiers face certainly did….haha

These are cool...Thank you, Tori, for sharing these with me…So many great ideas come out of the U.K…This plant-based cleaning solution comes in a  dissolvable film which can be added to an empty, reusable spray bottle before filling up the bottle with warm water to create an effective eco-friendly cleaning solution that is biodegradable – making it kinder to the planet, to you and to the surfaces you clean. Read all about them here…

Much has closed down due to COVID-19…But what do you think will you sustain any practises that you have had to adopt…? Do you think governments and businesses will start thinking and realising that they can operate differently and for the best of both their workforce and the environment?

I think this pandemic will change us all…Life will not be the same afterwards…I also think while we have had to cook and make do maybe we will waste less and buy less…

Please stay safe and be well…do follow any guidelines (many) are not around the world…I have seen comments like ” I will not be controlled” ” Prove it is worse than the flu…even a half marathon took place in the U.K…There was no social distancing there…

Do you think some of the world’s population gone crazy…Last Hurrah…What are your thoughts?

All of these people are in my naughty Corner both for pollution and stupidity.

So much for observing social distancing…I would love to see the stats of infections and deaths related to this event…I cannot believe there will be no repercussions of this crass stupidity. It is the people who didn’t attend and get sick that I have the sympathy for and for which everyone (if) they have a conscience will have it on theirs…Rant over!

A mixed bag today but I hope you have enjoyed the read and smiled sometimes because it is smiling which will get us through this…

My hope for the future is a cleaner world… I do want to see community and caring becoming the new norm…WORKING TOGETHER INSTEAD OF WORKING AGAINST EACH OTHER…
